Former Eternal CEO Deepinder Goyal is launching Temple, a premium wellness wearable device designed to measure metabolic state in real time. According to reports from Bloomberg, the bean-shaped device will be worn on the side of the forehead and is expected to launch within six months to a year. Goyal, 43, explained that the device measures a new biomarker called 'entropy' that correlates with metabolic rate, offering insights into stress, meditation, recovery, sleep and exercise patterns. The device will retail for approximately $1,000 and is primarily targeted at high-performing individuals such as athletes, executives and founders rather than mass-market consumers. Speaking to Bloomberg, Goyal emphasized that Temple will launch as a wellness device with peer-reviewed studies, stating 'I'm not building Temple for everybody. Actually, I'm building it only for myself' and adding that 'Business is a side effect of what we're doing for ourselves'. The science behind the 'entropy' biomarker has not yet been validated by independent scientists.
Beyond Temple, Goyal is backing LAT Aerospace with a $20 million personal investment, as reported by Economic Times in March last year. The aviation venture aims to develop low-cost, short takeoff and landing aircraft to ease congestion in India's biggest cities. According to Bloomberg, his vision includes a network of eight-seater planes connecting small airstrips, allowing passengers to bypass major airports and travel directly between cities, towns and villages. Goyal acknowledged the challenges, stating he has only 0.1% expectation that the project will work due to engineering, regulation and infrastructure hurdles. However, he believes such a network could help spread economic activity beyond India's largest urban centers.
Temple enters an increasingly competitive wearable device market that already includes heart rate tracking watches and rings. As reported by Bloomberg, Goyal argues that Temple directly measures metabolic rate rather than relying on heart rate as a proxy, positioning it as a more accurate health monitoring tool. The device has not yet undergone medical regulatory approval, and the science behind the 'entropy' biomarker has not been validated by independent scientists. Goyal's net worth stands at $1.3 billion, primarily from his stake in Eternal, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Goyal co-founded Zomato as Foodiebay in 2008 and led the company for 18 years before stepping down as CEO in February. According to Bloomberg, he wants Eternal to continually reinvent itself rather than remain defined by its current business model. The company, which went public in 2021 and acquired online grocer Grofers in 2022, was renamed Eternal last year. The group's businesses span restaurant delivery, 10-minute grocery drops and event ticketing. Goyal emphasized that the company's DNA should keep evolving, stating 'The point of Eternal is to make sure the DNA keeps evolving' and adding 'The moment you think that you made it, you're dead'. Zomato was rebranded to Zomato in 2010 and later expanded to food deliveries, going public in 2021. A year later, Zomato acquired online grocer Grofers, which was renamed Blinkit and is now India's biggest instant delivery firm.
