The LPG gas cylinder e-KYC deadline ends today, September 14, 2026, marking the fifth extension in the two-month deadline period. According to reports from Goodreturns, the government has extended the deadline multiple times, with previous deadlines set for August 16, August 23, and August 31. However, at least 3.16 crore domestic LPG customers are yet to complete their LPG biometric Aadhaar authentication, as highlighted by the Oil Ministry in its letter to Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum. With immediate effect, LPG refills at subsidized rates are now blocked for customers who have not completed their LPG biometric Aadhaar authentication, with the ministry emphasizing that 100% BAA compliance is required for prudent use of public funds.
The majority of Indian Oil, HPCL, and BPCL customers have completed the e-KYC process, as reported by Goodreturns. However, there are expectations of an extension in the deadline, as many customers are still pending to complete their biometric verification. The government's decision to extend the deadline for the fifth time indicates ongoing challenges in customer compliance with the verification requirements, with the latest extension providing customers with an additional week to complete the biometric verification process.
The e-KYC initiative aims to ensure genuine eligible customers continue to receive LPG subsidies under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme without any disruption, according to Goodreturns reports. The updated verification process eliminates black marketing or fraud and tackles illegal or multiple LPG connections under one name or address. Since the US-Iran conflict, the Oil Ministry has stated that one household should have only one cooking gas connection, either PNG or LPG, with households having both connections required to switch to PNG completely. LPG subsidy benefits, including direct benefit transfers (DBT) and targeted subsidy refills for non-BAA customers, were halted from July 1, 2026, as the ministry noticed that these consumers still continue to get LPG refills at regulated retail prices with subsidised benefits, which puts further pressure on the financial burden of the exchequer.
According to the ministry guidelines, once the e-KYC is completed, the connection can be reactivated, and the LPG customers will then be able to avail refills at the regulated price with the applicable subsidy. For customers who missed the September 14th deadline, LPG connection, delivery, or refilling could be impacted temporarily until the process is completed. The ministry has asked OMCs to impose these two major rules, with immediate effect blocking further LPG refills for non-compliant customers. As of now, there have been no reports regarding the government planning to extend or announce a new deadline to complete e-KYC, with the September 14th deadline remaining effective.
According to Goodreturns, customers can complete e-KYC through dedicated apps for each company. Indian Oil customers can use the IndianOil One APP and AadhaarFaceRD App, while Bharat Gas users need to download the Hello BPCL App. HP Gas customers can use the HP Pay App or Aadhaar FaceRD app. The process involves linking 16-digit LPG IDs, face biometric verification, and consent to terms and conditions. The government's focus on this verification process reflects efforts to streamline LPG distribution and eliminate fraudulent connections while ensuring subsidy benefits reach genuine beneficiaries.
