The LPG gas cylinder e-KYC deadline for Indane Gas, HP Gas and Bharat Gas is ending today, September 30, 2026. This represents the final opportunity for domestic LPG users to complete their biometric Aadhaar verification before mandatory implementation from October 1, 2026. The Oil Ministry has made LPG biometric Aadhaar authentication mandatory with effect from next month, with the September 30th deadline being the culmination of multiple extended deadlines throughout the year. The ministry has conducted extensive outreach efforts, sending more than 12 crore SMS and WhatsApp messages since October 2023, while distributors and delivery staff have followed up individually with consumers yet to authenticate.
Domestic LPG customers who fail to complete e-KYC verification will face significant price increases, paying commercial rates for their domestic LPG cylinders. Current domestic LPG prices range from ₹941.50 in Mumbai to ₹968 in Kolkata for 14.2 kg cylinders, while commercial rates for 19 kg cylinders cost ₹2,701 in Mumbai to ₹2,916.50 in Chennai. The price differential is substantial, with customers potentially paying ₹1,805.5 more in Delhi alone (₹2,747.50 commercial rate minus ₹942 domestic rate). PMUY customers face additional restrictions, as they may not be able to book refills of any LPG cylinders until the e-KYC process is completed. From October 1, 2026, Indian Oil, BPCL, and HPCL will halt LPG subsidy benefits immediately for customers who have not completed their biometric authentication.
The ministry has provided numerous extensions to give consumers time to complete their e-KYC process, with previous deadlines set for June 30, 2026, September 14, 2026, September 7, August 31, August 23, August 15, August 7, and July 31. The September 30th deadline represents the final opportunity before mandatory implementation. The extensive outreach campaign includes special camps at distributorships, high-footfall locations, and rural areas, along with IVRS prompts during refill booking, mobile notifications, and social media campaigns. Video tutorials on completing self e-KYC are available on the PMUY portal to assist consumers in completing the verification process.
Consumers have multiple options to complete their e-KYC verification before the deadline. During refill delivery, the delivery person can complete authentication using the OMC mobile application on the spot. At distributor showrooms, consumers can visit their LPG distributor to complete authentication. Digital options include using IndianOil ONE app for Indane customers, Hello BPCL app for Bharatgas customers, and HP PAY app for HP Gas customers. The process involves linking the 16-digit LPG ID, providing consent for face authentication, and completing the biometric verification through the Aadhaar FaceRD app. The ministry emphasizes that the e-KYC is mandatory to ensure genuine and eligible customers receive subsidized LPG benefits and to tackle diversion of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial and industrial usage.
The e-KYC implementation comes as domestic LPG is sold below cost, with the implicit subsidy for September 2026 reaching around ₹210 per 14.2 kg cylinder. This compares to ₹721 per cylinder in June 2026. The mandatory verification aims to ensure subsidized LPG benefits reach only eligible households while preventing diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial purposes. Under the new rule, consumers who have not completed BAA will have refill booking at regulated selling price with subsidy enabled once authentication is completed. The policy aligns with broader efforts to strengthen LPG distribution systems and prevent misuse of subsidized fuel.
