The August 31 deadline for LPG electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) authentication is ending today, with approximately 12 lakh LPG users still pending to complete their e-KYC process. According to reports from The Telegraph India, an Indane LPG official confirmed that no further extension is expected, stating "As of now, the deadline is August 31. We have no information about any further extension. It is a decision that will be taken at the national level." Local data reveals significant regional variations, with one LPG distributor in Calcutta reporting 32,000 domestic LPG customers pending e-KYC completion, while another distributor noted that 10% of their total 50,000 non-Ujjwala LPG connections are yet to complete the process. The Indane LPG Distributors' Association spokesperson Behari Biswas indicated that the Union Ministry will make the final decision on any potential extension.
Failure to complete e-KYC by the August 31 deadline results in severe financial implications for LPG consumers. Current market prices show Indane Gas LPG cylinders at ₹942 in Delhi, ₹968 in Kolkata, ₹941.50 in Mumbai, and ₹957.50 in Chennai for 14.2 kg cylinders. PMUY scheme members receive ₹300 subsidy, reducing their purchase price to approximately ₹642 in Delhi, ₹668 in Kolkata, ₹641.50 in Mumbai, and ₹657.50 in Chennai. However, non-PMUY customers face commercial rates of ₹2,738 in Delhi, ₹2,691.50 in Mumbai, ₹2,872.50 in Kolkata, and ₹2,906 in Chennai for 19 kg cylinders. The pricing difference is substantial, with commercial rates being ₹1,796 higher than domestic rates in Delhi alone, highlighting the financial impact of missing the e-KYC deadline.
Consumers must complete e-KYC through their respective OMC mobile applications by visiting LPG distributors or using the Aadhaar FaceRD app. According to Goodreturns, the process requires downloading the relevant app - IndianOil One/AadhaarFaceRD for Indane Gas, Hello BPCL for Bharat Gas, and HP Pay/AadhaarFaceRD for HP Gas. Users must register using mobile numbers linked to their LPG accounts, verify through OTP, enter 16-digit LPG ID for Indane Gas, and complete face authentication. Recent reports indicate that LPG users faced difficulties over the weekend as some agencies were mostly shut on Sunday, though some distributors operated on both August 29th and August 30th to complete the process. The Oil Marketing Companies urge consumers not to wait until the last minute amid rush at LPG dealers and difficulties completing the process through OMC apps.
To complete e-KYC through mobile applications, consumers must download the respective OMC application and Aadhaar FaceRD app. As reported by Goodreturns, Indane Gas requires users to register using mobile number and email linked to the LPG account, enter the 16-digit LPG ID, and complete Aadhaar verification using FaceRD app. HP Gas requires mobile number verification, MPIN generation, and consent to Aadhaar-based authentication. Bharat Gas requires registration using LPG-linked contact details, selection of LPG connection, and completion of e-KYC/Aadhaar authentication. Recent reports indicate that distributors remain important where Aadhaar, mobile-number, or biometric problems arise - the process ensures genuine households receive domestic-rate cylinders, preventing them from purchasing at much higher commercial prices.
As per reports, no new domestic LPG connection has been provided since March 2026 in the wake of the Middle East crisis. The energy supply has been hindered since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, spiking prices and limiting supply across the globe. Bookings across various gas companies like Indian Oil, HPCL, and BPCL remain closed as customers try to book LPG connections. The Oil Ministry has introduced new rules including the 25-day and 45-day rule - people in urban areas must wait for 25 days to get an LPG refill, while those in rural areas must wait 45 days. Additionally, the Government introduced a 30-day period in May to give up the LPG connection if a PNG facility is available in the area, with the provision to apply for a transfer voucher for customers shifting to non-PNG areas.
