According to reports from Mint, members planning to withdraw their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) should carefully verify six essential details before filing claims. The Universal Account Number (UAN) assigned to individuals stores critical information used for EPF services and claims, making proper verification crucial for seamless processing. Any discrepancy in these details can cause significant delays, especially when urgent funds are required. As per Mint, a mismatch in EPFO records or omission of data can cause delays when withdrawing provident fund, especially when members need funds urgently.
As reported by Mint, the six critical EPFO details that should be cross-checked include Aadhaar number and personal details, PAN name and details, bank account active number and IFSC, name matching Aadhaar/PAN records, date of birth correct in UAN records, and employment records including joining/leaving dates. These details are essential for identity verification, claim processing, and member verification purposes during the withdrawal process. The verification process takes only a few minutes but can help prevent avoidable discrepancies, delays, and regrets during the withdrawal process. According to Mint, before submitting a PF claim, members should carefully verify that their Aadhaar, PAN, bank account, personal details and other basic profile information are correctly entered and properly linked.
According to an official release from the Press Information Bureau in January 2025, EPFO has simplified the process for rectifying member profiles for Aadhaar-validated UANs. Eligible members can now self-improve and update basic details such as name, date of birth, nationality, gender, parents' name, marital status, and dates of joining or leaving through the EPFO website. While several older UANs and cases may still require employer help, guidance and certification, this feature allows members to make necessary changes independently. As per Mint, if an eligible EPFO member believes their profile needs rectification, they can utilize the services available on the EPFO website to make the necessary changes.
As reported by Mint, EPFO has removed the requirement for employer approval for bank-account seeding after bank verification as per a press release in April 2025. This change allows members to seed or change their bank account details using Aadhaar authentication, eliminating the need for employer approval when a bank account is verified. The individual bank account details mentioned deserve particular attention, as this is where the PF withdrawal will ultimately be credited once the approval process is complete. The move is intended to make the process simpler and quicker for EPF members, with the individual bank account details being the most important aspect as this is where PF withdrawal proceeds will be credited.
According to a post by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on X, interest on final PF withdrawals is now calculated up to the date of payment authorisation, irrespective of when the claim was submitted. The change was announced in July 2026, when Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the EPFO had completed the migration of its entire member database to a centralised platform under the Centralised IT Enabled Services (CITES) project. Under the revised system, interest on final PF settlements will now be calculated up to the date of payment authorisation instead of only up to the last day of the previous month. For example, if a member has a final PF balance of ₹10 lakh and the claim is authorised on 20 June, earlier the interest calculation could stop at 31 May. Under the revised approach, the member would also receive interest for the intervening period up to the payment authorisation date, i.e., till 20 June.
According to Zee News, EPFO credits interest on the total PF balance annually, but notifications are not delivered to everyone at the same time, which may lead to panic among members. The process of crediting interest takes place in phases, therefore it may take some time for the amount to reflect in the account. Subscribers can check their PF interest status through multiple platforms including the EPFO portal using Aadhaar-authenticated UAN and password, EPFO missed-call service by dialing 9966044425, EPFO SMS service by sending 'EPFOHO UAN ENG' to 7738299899, and the UMANG app. In case none of these methods work and the balance still shows the same status, subscribers may approach the EPFO through its online grievance portal or in person at the local EPFO office. As per Zee News, if the interest credit is delayed, it may not be in the interest being credited but in displaying the accrued interest, with the latest balance reflecting the interest amount sooner or later.
