Claim rejections often stem from mismatched KYC details between EPFO and Aadhaar records. According to Zee News, common issues include incorrect names, wrong dates of birth, or wrong gender entries. Many rejections arise from mismatches between Aadhaar's data and EPFO's records, with wrong bank details also contributing to delays and rejections. The solution lies in maintaining up-to-date KYC details through the UAN member portal, where subscribers can modify basic details exactly as mentioned in Aadhaar. The system automatically verifies these details with UIDAI, and once employer approval is obtained, changes reflect in the EPF account.
Bank-related rejections often occur due to outdated account information. As reported by Zee News, when subscribers change jobs, salary accounts may change while EPFO accounts remain linked to previous details. In other cases, members may have changed banks but forgotten to link the current active account with UAN. The verification process involves checking the bank account number linked with the UAN and ensuring it matches the current account. Additionally, IFSC code changes when branches shift or merge, and customers using older branch details may face rejections. A mismatch between bank account spelling and EPF account details can also cause errors.
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made it mandatory for members to update their nomination details for any online claims and digital services. According to reports from Zee News, the EPFO lets subscribers decide who will receive the money in case of a person's death, with Aadhaar authentication now necessary to complete the process. A nomination does not merely cover the EPF; it is also linked to EPS (Employees' Pension Scheme) and EDLI (Employees' Deposit-Linked Insurance) claims. The latest EPFO circular issued on May 11, 2023, clarifies that members can now correct their date of birth up to plus or minus three years instead of one year earlier, making the linking of Universal Account Number (UAN) with Aadhaar easier.
To complete the nomination process online, a person requires an Aadhaar-authenticated UAN and mobile number. As reported by Zee News, members must log in to the EPF member portal using the UAN and password, then select 'e-Nomination' under the 'Manage' tab. Personal details will appear on the screen, and eligible family members can be added using their Aadhaar number, name, gender, date of birth, relation, address, bank account details (optional), and photograph. The nomination stands valid only after successful completion of the e-sign process, which requires an OTP sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile number. However, the latest EPFO circular clarifies that online EPFO member ID must contain a profile photo - members will receive an error message stating "unable to proceed" if they try to register an e-nomination without a profile photo on their EPFO member ID.
For a married man, the family includes spouse, children (minor, dependent, unmarried daughter, and disabled), dependent parents, and the deceased son's widow or children. For a married woman, the nominees remain the same but include dependent parents-in-law. According to EPFO guidelines, if a person has nominated parents or siblings as nominees and later gets married or has a child, the previous nomination becomes invalid and a fresh nomination of the spouse or child must be filed. The latest EPFO data shows that the organization maintains 24.77 crore accounts as of Annual Report 2019-20, making it one of the world's largest social security organizations.
