The Income Tax Department's Annual Information Statement (AIS) provides taxpayers with a consolidated view of financial and tax-related information reported against their PAN for a financial year. According to reports from Mint, the statement is available through the income tax e-filing portal and the 'AIS for Taxpayer' mobile app. Taxpayers can use this tool to cross-check details before filing their income tax returns and flag information that is incorrect, duplicated, or does not belong to them.
AIS brings together information received by the tax department from different sources, as reported by Mint. The statement includes TDS and TCS details, Specified Financial Transactions (SFT), tax payments, tax demands, refunds, and interest on income tax refunds. Additionally, it covers pending and completed tax proceedings, GST return information, certain foreign remittance details, information from Form 24Q TDS statement, Forms 61/61A, and ITRs of other taxpayers. The platform also includes mutual fund purchases, dividends, and off-market transactions reported by RTAs or depositories, along with information received from other authorities where relevant to tax administration.
Not all information may appear in AIS at the same time, according to Mint reports. Under prescribed rules, information covering items such as GST returns, certain foreign remittances, Form 24Q information, ITR information of other taxpayers, off-market transactions, dividends, and mutual fund purchases can be uploaded within 3 months from the end of the month in which the information is received by the Income Tax Department. This means taxpayers checking their AIS for April 2026 to March 2027 may see some entries added or updated later.
Taxpayers can access their AIS through the income tax e-filing portal by logging in and selecting 'Services' and then 'Annual Information Statement (AIS)', as reported by Mint. The platform displays two key sections: Part A containing basic taxpayer details and Part B providing financial and tax-related information. Transaction-level data can be downloaded in Excel format, while the complete statement is available in PDF or JSON formats. The downloaded PDF is password-protected and requires the taxpayer's PAN in lowercase along with the date of birth.
Taxpayers can submit feedback directly against relevant transactions through the AIS platform, according to Mint reports. The process involves selecting the relevant category such as TDS/TCS, SFT, tax payments, demand and refund, or other information. Users can mark information as correct, not fully correct, related to another PAN/year, duplicated, or denied, and provide customized feedback where applicable. Multiple transactions can be selected using the 'Bulk Feedback' option, and once feedback is submitted, the Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS) is updated based on the response.
