US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor revealed that President Donald Trump has personally invested in strengthening ties with India since the start of his second term, as reported by ANI. Gor emphasized that 'President Trump trusts India, and he has invested heavily in this relationship from day one'. Just weeks into Trump's second term, he and Prime Minister Modi launched a trust initiative, transforming the relationship and utilising strategic technologies to accelerate cooperation in AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, defence, and critical minerals. The Ambassador noted that this trust initiative has been instrumental in deepening bilateral cooperation across multiple strategic sectors.
Speaking at the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce National Convention 2026 on Tuesday, Gor stressed the need for candid, trust-based engagements on export controls and rock-solid intellectual property protections to give innovators confidence to invest, create and scale without fear. According to Business Standard, the Ambassador emphasized that 'This relationship has unbelievable and incredible potential. To unleash the full power of the economic engine, we must address friction points together as true partners. We need predictable taxation and regulatory frameworks that allow business to thrive'. However, Gor notably did not address India's major concerns regarding tariffs and visas during his address.
Gor highlighted that the US embassy in India topped the list among US embassies worldwide in attracting over USD 20 billion in investment. As reported by ANI, he said that 'We stand at a truly remarkable moment. In just over two decades, our bilateral trade has shattered records, skyrocketing from about $20 billion to over $240 billion in goods and services'. The Ambassador noted that 'The 12-fold increase doesn't happen by accident,' asserting that the two countries share the ambition of taking this figure to USD 500 billion by 2030. 'When India and the US work together, they integrate value chains, accelerate breakthroughs in critical technologies and strengthen supply chain resilience', he said. When Indian companies invest in America, it provides access to one of the world's most dynamic markets, according to Gor.
Gor emphasized that India and the US are working hand-in-hand across sectors including artificial intelligence, technology, aerospace, defence and energy, calling the partnership a reflection of 'deep, unbreakable trust'. As reported by ANI, he highlighted that 'Even though it was called the Global AI Summit, 90% of those companies are American. And why was it held in India? Because this is the crossroads where we can take things forward'. The Ambassador pointed to Delhi's hosting of the Global AI Summit during his tenure as evidence of India's growing role in the bilateral technology partnership. Gor's remarks framed India and the US as increasingly integrated across value chains, with American corporations expanding investment in India and Indian companies investing in the US, a dynamic he described as mutually beneficial.
During his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, US Ambassador Sergio Gor described the region as an 'important part of India' and indicated that Washington would consider reevaluating its travel advisory for the area. Speaking after a meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Gor said he was pleased to visit the region and indicated that the US would examine whether its travel warning should be downgraded. 'It's an important part of India and incredible place and I'm thrilled to see this place,' Gor stated. 'We had a very good meeting. We have some follow-ups we have to take back to Washington. We are to take this to Delhi,' he added, signaling a potential shift in US policy toward the region.
