US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in India for high-level diplomatic talks, emphasizing that the India-US relationship serves as the cornerstone of America's approach to the Indo-Pacific region. Speaking at the dedication ceremony of the new US Embassy Support Annex Building in New Delhi, Rubio described the bilateral bond as incredibly important and highlighted the personal relationship between PM Modi and US President Donald Trump. According to NDTV, Rubio stated there is incredible potential ahead for the partnership and hinted at even more exciting and new announcements about strengthening ties in the coming months.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh declared on Saturday that India, once considered an importer of weapons, will become the biggest exporter in 25-30 years. According to reports from Business Standard, Singh made this statement after inaugurating an ammunition manufacturing unit at Shirdi. The minister emphasized that no power can stop India from achieving this ambitious defence export target. Rubio's visit comes as both countries discuss co-production of military systems and collaboration in artificial intelligence, semiconductors and space technology. India already operates several US-origin defence platforms, including Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft, MQ-9B SkyGuardian drones, M777 howitzers and C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft.
Singh announced that the target is to increase the private sector role in defence production to 50 per cent. As reported by Business Standard, he stated that the private sector is not just a supplier of nuts and bolts in defence, but also a producer of state-of-the-art weapons systems. The minister highlighted that when the government's vision and the private sector's innovation align, the country reaches new heights. Rubio's visit coincides with discussions about interim agreements and broader cooperation in sectors linked to semiconductors, batteries and critical minerals.
Singh emphasized the need for comprehensive collaboration across sectors to achieve India's defence manufacturing ambitions.
