India's exports to the West Asian region have achieved stability in June 2025, recording ₹4,250 crore ($5 billion) with a 7.29% year-on-year growth, as reported by Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal. According to Business Standard, this represents a significant recovery from the ₹4,000 crore ($4.67 billion) recorded in June 2024. The shipments had experienced volatility throughout the year, with declines in March due to the US-Iran conflict, followed by improvements in April and May before reaching this stabilized level. However, the recovery comes amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and price volatility that continue to impact regional trade dynamics.
The export performance showed mixed results across key West Asian markets. As reported by Business Standard, exports to the UAE increased by 3.57% to ₹2,200 crore ($2.7 billion), while shipments to Saudi Arabia declined by 4.42% to ₹6,600 crore ($768.56 million). India's normal monthly exports to the region typically amount to approximately ₹4,800 crore ($6 billion). The country's imports from the UAE and Oman registered positive growth, while imports from Saudi Arabia decreased by 29.75%. These mixed results reflect the complex geopolitical environment affecting regional trade flows and the strategic importance of maintaining diversified export relationships across the West Asian market.
Indian exporters are strategically utilizing three ports in Oman - Duqm, Sohar and Salalah to enhance their regional export capabilities, according to Business Standard reports. This port diversification strategy has become particularly important given the challenges posed by the US-Iran conflict, which has severely impacted ship movements through international waters, particularly the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict has created logistical difficulties for cargo transportation in the region, making alternative port access crucial for maintaining export momentum. The strategic use of multiple Omani ports provides Indian exporters with resilient supply chain routes that help mitigate the impact of geopolitical tensions on regional trade.
