Prime Minister Narendra Modi disbursed ₹2,400 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) at a special programme held on June 19, 2026 at 5 PM at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The disbursal programme was held as part of the Centre's flagship employment-linked incentive scheme, with PM Modi emphasizing the importance of equal opportunities for women and girls. Addressing the event, Modi announced that PM-VBRY has created over 70 lakh jobs across the country, as reported by NDTV. The scheme, which came into effect on August 1, 2025, is designed to promote employment generation, strengthen social security coverage and encourage participation in the formal economy by supporting both workers and employers.
Speaking at the event, PM Modi revealed that nearly 7 million jobs have been created under PM-VBRY, while an equal number of first-time employees have been brought under the ambit of social security through the scheme. As per Business Standard, around 20 lakh young employees have completed six months of their first job, with 10 lakh young people receiving incentives under this scheme today after completing six months of their first job as per the scheme provisions. The scheme has facilitated employment for around 15 lakh beneficiaries across the country since its launch, with a total outlay of ₹99,446 crore. With this comprehensive coverage, PM-VBRY has now created over 70 lakh jobs and provided social security cover for the beneficiaries under the scheme.
Under Part A of the scheme, first-time employees are eligible for an incentive of up to ₹15,000 to support their entry into the workforce, as reported by Upstox News Desk and Zee News. Employees with salaries up to ₹1 lakh are eligible to receive this incentive. The first installment will be payable after six months of service and the second installment will be payable after 12 months of service and completion of a financial literacy programme by the employee. A portion of the incentive will be kept in a savings instrument or deposit account for a fixed period and can be withdrawn by the employee at a later date. The amount will be transferred to the beneficiaries through the direct benefit transfer system.
Employers creating additional jobs can receive incentives of up to ₹3,000 per month for each additional employee with sustained employment for at least six months, according to the government statement reported by Upstox News Desk and Zee News. The government has announced that employers in the manufacturing sector are eligible to receive incentives for four years, while employers in other sectors can avail the benefit for two years. This structure provides sustained support for job creation across different industry sectors, with the initiative recognising the importance of manufacturing in driving economic growth.
PM Modi highlighted the government's broader approach to employment generation, noting that loans worth more than ₹33 trillion had been disbursed under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, enabling millions of young Indians to start their own ventures. He also pointed to the role of women's collectives in boosting livelihoods, noting that more than 10 crore women were associated with self-help groups and over 3 crore had emerged as 'lakhpati didis'. The Prime Minister emphasized that the opening up of the space sector and rapid expansion of the digital economy had created new employment opportunities in areas such as platform work, content creation and technology services, generating livelihoods that were previously unimaginable for millions of young Indians.
