Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 23rd instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme from West Bengal's Hooghly district on Saturday, June 20, crediting more than ₹18,880 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.44 crore farmers across the country. As reported by Zee News, PM Modi pressed the button to transfer ₹2,000 to each beneficiary farmer's account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism. The latest payout will transfer more than ₹18,880 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.44 crore farmers across the country. As reported by Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, over 2.18 crore women farmers will also receive benefits under this instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. The event was held at Tarakeswar in Hooghly district, organised by the Union Ministry of Agriculture with support from the Government of West Bengal.
With the release of the 23rd instalment, the cumulative disbursement under the PM-KISAN scheme will exceed ₹4.46 lakh crore since its launch on February 24, 2019, according to the ministry statement. In West Bengal specifically, more than 45.35 lakh farmers will receive over ₹907 crore under the latest instalment, taking the total disbursement in the state to more than ₹15,055 crore since 2019. The transfer will take place during Modi's visit to Hooghly district in West Bengal and will be made through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism. At the national level, the total amount transferred under PM-KISAN since its introduction in 2019 is set to cross ₹4.46 lakh crore following the latest round of payments. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted that farmers in Assam have received cumulative assistance exceeding ₹8,292 crore since the scheme's launch, with more than 18.56 lakh farmers in the state benefiting from the latest instalment alone.
Under the PM-KISAN scheme, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 annually, which is transferred to their accounts in three instalments at four-month intervals. Each instalment amounts to ₹2,000, which farmers can use to purchase farming-related essentials such as fertilisers, seeds, pesticides, and other necessary items. The 23rd instalment was released at around 3:45 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026, according to official announcements. With the press of a button, money was credited to the bank account of 9.44 lakh farmers across the country. The PM-KISAN scheme is designed for all landholding farmers' families who have cultivable land holdings in their names. Mandatory information required to enroll includes farmer's/spouse's name, date of birth, bank account number, IFSC/MICR Code, mobile number, Aadhaar Number, and other customer information. The government has made it mandatory for all eligible farmers to complete their e-KYC at the earliest to ensure timely receipt of PM-KISAN disbursement, with multiple methods available including OTP-based e-KYC and biometric authentication.
Beneficiaries can check their PM-KISAN 23rd installment payment status through multiple channels including the official portal at pmkisan.gov.in and the PM Kisan app. To check status on the portal, visit the official PM-Kisan website, select 'Farmer's Corner' and click on 'Know Your Status' tab, enter registration number and security code, receive OTP on registered mobile number, and enter OTP on portal to check payment status. For the PM Kisan app, farmers can download the mobile application for digital convenience to view payment status and application details. The 'Know Your Status (KYS)' module available on the PM-KISAN portal allows beneficiaries to check their payment status, eligibility, land seeding, Aadhaar linking and e-KYC status. In the previous installment, more than 9.35 crore PM-KISAN beneficiaries received funds on March 13, 2026 through this scheme in which the Centre disbursed ₹18,640 crore via Direct Benefit Transfer system. If 'NO' appears next to e-KYC in beneficiary status, this means the instalment will be withheld, making immediate e-KYC completion essential.
There might be a certain group of eligible farmers who might not have received the 23rd instalment of ₹2,000 under PM KISAN. According to Zee News, if you are among the farmers who have not received the ₹2,000 in your account, you can register your complaint at the PM Kisan Helpdesk. The complaint can be lodged from Monday to Friday through various channels including the PM Kisan Toll Free Number: 18001155266, PM Kisan Helpline Number: 155261, PM Kisan's new helpline: 011-24300606, and email ID: pmkisan-ict@gov.in. Your PM KISAN money might be stuck due to several reasons including e-KYC issues, eligibility concerns, or land seeding problems. To resolve these issues, there should be a YES tick on all the following factors: e-KYC, eligibility, and land seeding. If you don't conform to the rules on e-KYC, eligibility and land seeding, your PM KISAN quarterly installment of ₹2,000 might be impacted.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted the significant impact of PM-KISAN in Assam, stating that more than 18.56 lakh farmers in the state are receiving benefits under the 23rd instalment, with over ₹371 crore being transferred directly into their bank accounts. As reported by Business Standard, since the launch of the scheme, farmers in Assam have received cumulative assistance exceeding ₹8,292 crore. Sonowal emphasized that the money transferred to farmers means seeds are purchased on time, fertilisers bought without borrowing, and farm investments made with confidence. He maintained that the country has witnessed a historic shift from a system plagued by leakages and middlemen to one driven by transparency and accountability through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The minister highlighted that the DBT architecture has empowered small and marginal farmers, strengthened financial inclusion and enabled rural families to make timely investments in agriculture.
