Som Distilleries & Breweries shares surged 6.83% to ₹79.35 during Monday's trading session following a significant legal victory. According to the company's BSE filing, the Madhya Pradesh High Court quashed an order dated June 18, 2026 that had rejected the company's applications for renewal of excise licences for 2026-27. The Bhopal-headquartered company announced this milestone in its Saturday filing, with shares trading ₹79.35 per share at 10 am on Monday, representing a 6.83% gain.
The High Court has issued specific directives for the Madhya Pradesh government to act swiftly on the licence renewal. As reported by the company, the MP HC has directed renewal of all manufacturing licences of Som Distilleries under applicable provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act within 15 days from the order date. Additionally, the court has awarded ₹1 lakh in legal costs to be paid by the Government of Madhya Pradesh to Som Distilleries for expenses incurred during the legal proceedings. The court also preserved the company's right to pursue damages or losses arising from the period of operational closure before an appropriate forum.
The company confirmed that licence renewal will enable it to resume operations at its Bhopal plant and generate sales from Madhya Pradesh. According to the company statement, the order is expected to have a positive impact on its financial position. Som Distilleries said it will work with relevant authorities to complete the renewal process within the court-directed timeframe and remains focused on restoring operations, utilising manufacturing capacity, strengthening its product portfolio and distribution network, and improving working-capital efficiency.
The company's recent financial performance shows challenges despite the legal victory. On a consolidated basis, net profit declined 98.91% to ₹0.46 crore while net sales declined 49.16% to ₹268.63 crore in Q1 June 2026 over Q1 June 2025. The company, which is engaged in the manufacture and sale of beer and Indian made foreign liquor, continues to navigate operational challenges while working towards operational recovery following the court's directive.
