According to the latest regulatory filing, Varun Beverages (VBL) has announced a strategic investment decision to acquire up to ₹4.10 crore in Jager Renewables, a special purpose vehicle established to generate and supply solar power to consumers in Uttar Pradesh. The company's Investment and Borrowing Committee approved the investment at its meeting on October 7, 2026, with VBL acquiring up to 26% of Jager Renewables' equity share capital through one or more tranches. The transaction involves a cash consideration of up to ₹4.10 crore and is expected to be completed on or before October 6, 2027. Notably, this investment does not represent a related-party acquisition, and the company's promoter or promoter group does not possess any interest in Jager Renewables beyond this proposed transaction.
The investment is aimed at securing solar power for captive consumption at VBL's facilities in Gorakhpur and Prayagraj, as well as any new facilities the company may establish in Uttar Pradesh. This move represents geographic diversification in VBL's renewable energy sourcing strategy, building on its prior green energy agreements in Rajasthan. As reported in the regulatory filing, this move aligns with the company's objectives to adopt environment-friendly energy solutions and optimise costs related to power consumption. VBL stated that using solar power is expected to help reduce electricity costs at these facilities while also providing an environmentally friendly source of energy. The company is expanding its group captive solar usage to its bottling operations in Uttar Pradesh, marking a standardized approach to lowering operating expenses across multiple regional bottling hubs.
Prior to this investment, Varun Beverages had scaled up its stake in Jager Renewables Two Private Limited to 49% via an additional ₹7.05 crore investment in March 2026, targeting solar power captive consumption at its Rajasthan bottling facilities. The latest transaction expands VBL's group captive solar usage to its bottling operations in Uttar Pradesh, marking geographical diversification in renewable source procurement. This investment aligns with India's beverage manufacturing sector facing rising regulatory and consumer pressure to adopt sustainable practices, with energy costs constituting a notable portion of operating expenses due to refrigeration and automated blow molding systems.
According to the latest financial results, Varun Beverages reported Q2 CY2026 consolidated revenue from operations increased 20.4% year-on-year to ₹8,451.23 crore, while consolidated net profit grew 15.1% year-on-year to ₹1,525.36 crore. As reported by CNBC TV18, shares of Varun Beverages ended 0.33% higher at ₹440.70 on the NSE on Wednesday. The stock has gained 8.6% over the past month but remains down 10.4% so far this year. The investment in renewable energy infrastructure aligns with the company's sustainability initiatives while providing cost benefits for its Uttar Pradesh operations, with the transition to green power expected to help VBL fulfill its corporate sustainability targets and insulate regional manufacturing centers from local power tariff spikes.
