Mercedes-Benz India's Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer has officially confirmed that the new-generation GLB EV will be launched in India, with launch expected by the last quarter of 2026 through CBU imports from Europe. According to the latest reports, the confirmation came during the company's half-yearly sales call, with the compact luxury electric SUV already on sale in markets like the UK. The GLB EV was revealed globally in December 2025 and sits atop Mercedes-Benz's Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, representing the company's entry into the competitive compact luxury electric SUV segment in India. Iyer also confirmed that the CLA electric has been a success in India and the brand is planning to launch the new GLC EV, indicating a clear path for Mercedes-Benz's electric vehicle strategy in the country.
The GLB EV comes in two variants with distinct performance capabilities and charging options. The single-motor GLB 250+ produces 272 hp and 335 Nm, with 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.4 seconds and WLTP range of up to 631 km. The dual-motor GLB 350 4MATIC generates 353 hp and 515 Nm, achieving 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds with WLTP range of 615 km. Both variants share an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery and feature 800V electrical architecture supporting DC fast charging up to 320 kW. Mercedes claims that 260 km of range can be added in just 10 minutes, while DC chargers take 22 minutes for 10-80% charging and AC chargers require 4 hours 15 minutes for 10-100% charging. However, Iyer did not confirm which variants or specs will come to India, with the company indicating that more than one variant may be considered for the Indian market.
The GLB EV maintains the design language of the ICE-powered GLB with upright front and rear ends, connected LED lighting, and squared wheel arches. The main visual difference is the sealed-off grille on the EV, which features a large blanked-off grille with a three-pointed star in the centre and connected LED headlights. The SUV is available with the MBUX Superscreen setup, combining a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a passenger-side display. The system runs on Mercedes' MB.OS operating system and integrates AI support from Microsoft, Google, and ChatGPT4. Other features include flush-fitting door handles, inverted U-shaped LED taillights, a panoramic glass roof with adjustable opacity, multi-mood ambient lighting, a Burmester audio system with Dolby Atmos, and a full ADAS suite. The interior features a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with heated and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, four USB-C ports, and vehicle-to-load functionality. Adaptive dampers are also available as an optional extra internationally.
Latest reports suggest the GLB EV will be priced between ₹70 lakh and ₹85 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, with the German carmaker's Indian subsidiary expected to introduce both 5-seater and 7-seater variants. When it arrives, the GLB EV will compete in the compact luxury electric SUV space against the BMW iX3, Volvo EX40, Audi Q4 e-tron, Tesla Model Y, and BYD Sealion 7. The SUV offers 540 liters boot space in 5-seater configuration and 480 liters in 7-seater, with total expandable space of 1,715 liters after folding seats. The length is 4,732 mm, width 1,861-2,029 mm, height 1,689 mm, and wheelbase 2,889 mm. In the UK, the GLB EV is priced between GBP 46,100 and GBP 56,800, and as a CBU import, the India price is expected to come in around ₹80 lakh (ex-showroom). For India, Mercedes-Benz has not yet confirmed which version of the GLB EV will be offered, but the company's statement makes it clear that the model is part of its future electric plans for the country.
