Homegrown auto major Mahindra & Mahindra has unveiled its new pickup 'Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler' which will hit the market in India in April 2027 and will be launched as the 'Mahindra Lifestyler' in global markets. According to company ED & CEO, Auto & Farm Sectors, Rajesh Jejurikar, the Lifestyler pickup was developed as a global platform for access to mainly leverage global opportunities. As reported by PTI, Jejurikar emphasized that the Lifestyler is an important part of our global growth strategy and will be exported to markets including South Africa, Australia, the Middle East, and Latin America. The company is also exploring ASEAN markets where there is significant demand for pickups, noting that M&M is currently not present in these markets except Indonesia.
According to M&M's annual report for 2025-26, the company's automotive sector posted an export volume of 41,030 vehicles as against the previous year's exports of 34,709 vehicles, representing a growth of 18.2 per cent. The company exports its SUVs to global markets such as Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, Africa and South America. As reported by PTI, Jejurikar noted that the company is not present in the ASEAN markets except Indonesia, and would have to open up those markets with products like the Lifestyler to increase overall exports. The company is confident of maintaining this growth trajectory with new products hitting the market.
The pickup, which will be sold in India as 'Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler', could also have a play in the domestic market according to Jejurikar. As reported by PTI, he explained that over the last three to five years, many more Indian customers are valuing experiences, curated holidays, and curated recreational experiences where they take their own gear with them. The Lifestyler is positioned as a perfect pickup for customers who want to experience coffee plantation ownership or go with friends or family on camping trails, leveraging emerging lifestyle experiences in India. Jejurikar noted that there is potential emerging product opportunity in India for such a vehicle, with these being new lifestyle experiences that could be a very good opportunity for the company to leverage.
In the last 16-17 months, M&M's EV penetration has literally gone from 0 per cent to now 12 per cent of total SUV volume after the launches of BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S models. According to the latest annual report, in the electric four-wheeler segment, M&M sold 57,472 vehicles in 2025-26 as against 14,183 vehicles in the previous year, representing a 4X jump. The company recently introduced BE 6 SPORTEQ to add to the existing line-up and it will hit the market later this month. When asked about future EV penetration, Jejurikar said the company doesn't want to get into specific numbers but confirmed it will keep growing, noting that EV penetration is also a function of how much ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles are sold.
