GE Aerospace announced a fresh ₹100 crore investment in its manufacturing facility in Pune to expand production capacity and strengthen its global supply chain operations in India. According to reports from Upstox News Desk, the latest investment will fund new welding technologies, advanced inspection systems, precision tools, gauges and fixtures, along with infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving manufacturing precision and increasing output.
With this announcement, GE Aerospace's total investment in the Pune facility over the last three years has crossed ₹510 crore, including ₹410 crore announced over the previous two years. As reported by Upstox News Desk, this substantial investment demonstrates the company's long-term commitment to India and confidence in the Pune facility's strategic role within its global manufacturing network.
The Pune plant manufactures critical components for commercial aircraft engines and supports production for GE Aerospace's GE90, GEnx and GE9X engine programmes, as well as LEAP engines produced by CFM International. According to Upstox News Desk, the facility works with more than 300 local suppliers, which form part of the company's wider network of over 2,200 suppliers in India. The plant also plays a significant role in skill development through its two-year apprenticeship programme that enrols more than 500 apprentices annually.
The expansion will generate additional apprenticeship and employment opportunities at the company and among its supplier partners, as stated by Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of GE Aerospace's Pune manufacturing facility. Since 2015, the plant has trained more than 5,000 production associates, helping build a skilled workforce for India's aerospace manufacturing sector. The facility includes a specialized in-house Weld School that provides TIG welding training to apprentices.
GE Aerospace has been operating in India for over 40 years and has more than 1,400 GE Aerospace and partner engines in service across Indian airlines. According to Upstox News Desk, the company also supplies defence engines and systems used in the Indian Air Force's Light Combat Aircraft Tejas Mk1 and in helicopters, as well as systems for the Indian Navy's aircraft carrier and frigates. The Pune facility represents an important part of GE Aerospace's global manufacturing network and demonstrates the company's continued commitment to India's aerospace sector.
