India has emerged as the world's most marketing-led AI transformation, with chief marketing officers projecting the highest AI-driven growth of any region, directly controlling AI investments and prioritising high-impact applications such as agentic commerce and personalization. According to BCG's annual global survey of 300 CMOs, 53% of Indian CMOs project 5–9% incremental topline growth from AI, above the global average of 43%. This leadership position is reflected in CEO expectations, with 27% of Indian marketing leaders saying accelerating AI and digital transformation is their CEO's top priority, higher than in North America and nearly double the EMESA average of 15%. The survey, titled 'How CMOs are Moving Agentic Marketing from Illusion to Reality', reveals that 43% of Indian CMOs say CEO expectations from marketing have increased significantly over the past two years, demonstrating sustained executive support for AI initiatives.
Reflecting this strategic ownership, 57% of Indian CMOs fund AI directly from marketing budgets, compared to 47% globally, positioning India among the most marketing-led AI markets. Marketing AI investments exceeded ₹15 million this year for 43% of companies, up from 28% last year. While 96% of CMOs worldwide say AI is driving end-to-end transformation of their function, only about a third have scaled AI agents, and just 8% run campaigns with multiple autonomous AI agents. As Mark Abraham, Global Leader, Marketing, Sales and Pricing Practice at BCG, noted, "Ninety percent of the CMOs in our survey agreed that GenAI is already reshaping how consumers discover and evaluate brands. But most marketing organisations are not yet built to compete in that environment."
India leads globally in agentic commerce adoption, with 73% of CMOs ranking it a top three priority compared to 63% globally. On personalisation, 52% expect major gen AI impact, the highest regionally. Additionally, 88% believe gen AI will enable near real-time sensing and action. Agentic marketing represents a shift from conventional digital marketing by using autonomous AI systems, or "agents", to manage campaigns, optimise media spend and interact with consumers in real time. Unlike traditional approaches built around search engines and keyword targeting, this model is driven by AI-led conversations and recommendations. India's quick commerce density and digital-native consumer base make agentic commerce an immediate go-to-market priority rather than a future-state concept for Indian marketing leaders.
Indian CMOs demonstrate greater confidence in AI talent development, with only 13% viewing gen AI skills as a severe risk compared to 22% globally. More are deploying upskilling initiatives (42% vs 34%) and hiring AI-native talent (43% vs 35%). The survey highlights that 42% of Indian CMOs have fully deployed AI upskilling programmes for junior and mid-level employees, compared to 34% globally. Additionally, 43% of Indian CMOs have embedded AI skills into job descriptions, while globally about 80% of CMOs reported investments in AI-specific upskilling programmes and responsible AI training. BCG emphasizes that companies that scale AI effectively will need to build capabilities around data foundations, brand intelligence, multi-agent systems and talent development, moving beyond individual AI tools toward fully connected agentic operating systems.
The latest BCG report reveals that 31% of business-to-consumer CMOs and 20% of business-to-business CMOs report that their agentic marketing transformation is already having significant, measurable revenue impact. Close to a third (31%) of business-to-consumer CMOs and 20% of business-to-business CMOs report that their agentic marketing transformation is already having significant, measurable revenue impact. The number one investment area is now martech and data, up 11 to 12 percentage points since 2025. Of the highest investing CMOs, 41% are dramatically increasing investment in end-to-end workflow orchestration. Lauren Wiener, BCG managing director and senior partner, emphasizes that "The introduction of end-to-end agentic workflows is forcing a fundamental reset of the marketing operating model. Marketing organizations are being redesigned around AI, and CMOs have a rare opportunity to drive enterprise value by moving early and optimizing across their own organization as well as their partner ecosystem."
