According to reports from The Times of India, banks regularly revise their Fixed Deposit rates, and while these changes may appear minimal initially, they can significantly impact returns on substantial investments. A ₹2 lakh investment in a one-year FD scheme across different banks demonstrates how rate variations can affect final maturity amounts, making it crucial for investors to compare rates before opening an FD rather than simply choosing their existing bank. As per Bhawna Gupta's latest analysis, banks also offer senior citizens a higher interest rate than regular customers, with the extra rate making a noticeable difference on bigger deposits.
As reported by The Times of India, State Bank of India offers an interest rate of 6.75% to senior citizens and 6.25% to other customers on its one-year FD scheme. On a ₹2 lakh one-time investment, senior citizens will receive approximately ₹2,13,846 at maturity, while other customers will receive around ₹2,12,796. The bank's consistent rate structure across customer categories provides predictable returns for investors.
According to The Times of India, Bank of Baroda maintains identical rate structures to SBI, offering 6.75% to senior citizens and 6.25% to other customers on its one-year FD scheme. On the same ₹2 lakh investment, both senior citizens and other customers will receive the same maturity amounts as SBI - ₹2,13,846 and ₹2,12,796 respectively. This uniformity across major public sector banks demonstrates consistent market pricing.
As reported by The Times of India, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank all offer the same 6.75% rate to senior citizens and 6.25% to other customers on their one-year FD schemes. On the ₹2 lakh investment, all three banks provide identical maturity amounts - ₹2,13,846 for senior citizens and ₹2,12,796 for other customers. This consistency across private sector banks indicates standardized pricing strategies in the current market environment.
According to Bhawna Gupta's latest analysis, several banks now offer 7% interest rates to senior citizens across different tenures. Bank of Baroda provides 7% on its 10-year FD scheme, resulting in a ₹20,01,597 maturity on a ₹10 lakh deposit. Bank of India and Indian Overseas Bank both offer 7% on their 1-year schemes, providing ₹10,71,859 maturity. IDFC FIRST Bank offers 7% on its 5-year scheme, resulting in ₹14,14,778 maturity.
