According to reports from TopNews, both Bank of Baroda and State Bank of India currently offer competitive fixed deposit rates for senior citizens. Bank of Baroda provides 6.75% interest rate on its 1-year FD scheme and offers 6.90% and 7% interest rates on 3-year and 5-year schemes respectively. Meanwhile, State Bank of India offers 6.75%, 6.80%, and 7.05% interest rates on 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year FDs respectively. The 10-year FD schemes from both banks provide 7% and 7.05% interest rates respectively, making them attractive options for long-term investment planning.
As per the latest data from Bank of Baroda, the bank offers differentiated interest rates based on tenure and customer category. For general citizens, interest rates range from 4.25% to 7.45% per annum depending on the deposit duration, while senior citizens enjoy rates between 4.75% and 7.80% per annum. The bank provides three primary FD programmes: Standard Fixed Deposits (7 days to 10 years), Tax Saving FDs (minimum 5-year term), and Monthly/Quarterly Income Plans spanning 1-10 years. Senior citizens receive an additional 0.50% per annum interest rate benefit, making their effective rates 3.50% to 5.15% for short-term deposits, 6% to 6.15% for medium-term deposits, and 6.15% for long-term deposits.
As reported by TopNews, both banks offer schemes that can potentially double investments within 10 years. Using a ₹5,00,000 investment example, seniors can achieve maturity amounts of ₹10,00,798.67 from BoB's 7% scheme and ₹10,05,728.40 from SBI's 7.05% scheme. The analysis shows that SBI's higher interest rate of 7.05% results in a slightly higher maturity amount of ₹10,05,728.40 compared to BoB's ₹10,00,798.67. However, the difference is minimal and both banks offer similar doubling potential over the 10-year tenure.
According to TopNews, both banks provide specialized FD schemes targeting senior citizens with longer tenures. Bank of Baroda offers a special FD scheme with 7% interest rate for tenures above 5 years and up to 10 years, while State Bank of India provides a 7.05% interest rate on the same scheme duration. These special schemes are designed specifically for risk-averse retirees seeking fixed returns without market exposure, making them ideal for long-term wealth accumulation strategies.
As reported by TopNews, fixed deposits are considered the safest investment option for senior citizens due to their fixed returns and guaranteed maturity amounts. These PSU bank FD schemes are particularly attractive because they offer better interest rates to senior citizens compared to regular depositors. The 10-year tenure provides optimal time for wealth doubling while maintaining the safety profile that retirees prefer. Both banks' schemes are designed to provide stable returns without market volatility, making them suitable for conservative investment strategies. Bank of Baroda also offers premium withdrawal facilities allowing up to ₹5 lakh withdrawal without charges for accounts held for at least 12 months.
