The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is set to conduct the second edition of its Nidhi Aapke Nikat awareness campaign from next week, the retirement body informed through a social media post. According to EPFO officials, Nidhi Aapke Nikat is the provident and pension fund body's last mile monthly outreach programme for members, under which it organises camps across India on a district level. The campaign will feature helpdesks for members, including pensioners, offering a range of services such as the submission of Digital Life Certificates (DLCs) and other pensioner-centric assistance. Service kiosks are set up to address on-the-spot grievances for employees, employers, and pensioners, as well as to share relevant information with stakeholders. The monthly camps are typically organised on the 27th of every month, but when the 27th falls on a holiday, the camp is held on the next working day. This month's camp will be organised on 28 September (Monday).
EPFO members can now verify and update their KYC details online through the Unified Member Portal at unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in or the UMANG mobile application to prevent automated rejections of provident fund claims. According to EPFO officials, proactive profile maintenance significantly accelerates settlement turnaround times and eliminates the need for physical visits to field offices. The verification process requires members to complete most steps directly via the Unified Portal or UMANG app without visiting a field office, ensuring data uniformity prevents disbursement delays and failed direct benefit transfers.
There are several common reasons why EPF balances may not appear on member portals, according to Pensionbazaar reports. Recent employer contributions not updated can cause processing delays, as employers deposit PF contributions monthly but may take 2-3 weeks to reflect in accounts. Wrong UAN linked issues occur when new employers assign new UANs instead of linking existing ones, or when previous PF accounts aren't linked to new UANs. KYC not approved status can affect balance visibility, particularly when incomplete KYC details require employer approval. Mismatch in personal information such as name, gender, or date of birth discrepancies between EPF records and Aadhaar details can also cause account access issues.
While most missing EPF balance issues are temporary or technical problems that resolve automatically, certain situations require prompt attention from employees. These include employers deducting PF but not depositing it with EPFO, contributions missing for several months, or UAN showing no linked Member ID despite active employment. When withdrawal claims are rejected due to missing balance, immediate escalation is necessary. Employees can reach out to their employer first for resolution, then escalate to EPFO through the grievance portal at epfigms.gov.in if employer responses are unsatisfactory. The EPFO has made it mandatory for members to update their nomination details and KYC information to complete online claims, balance updates via passbook, and other digital services.
According to EPFO rules, spouse and children are defined as 'family' for pension fund, requiring their names to be added to the family list. For male subscribers, eligible nominees include spouse, child (married and unmarried), dependent parents, and widow of son and children. Female subscribers can nominate husband, children (married or unmarried), dependent parents, spouse's dependent parents, and widow of son and children. Unmarried members with no children can nominate persons of their choice, but this nomination becomes invalid if the member subsequently acquires a family, requiring a fresh nomination in favor of family members.
