The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched a revamped member portal offering 8 essential PF services online, eliminating the need for physical office visits. According to multiple reports, the new portal runs on CITES 2.01 system, marking a significant shift toward centralised digital services. Members can now activate their UAN, generate Direct UAN, update KYC, check e-passbook, file e-nomination, and submit withdrawal claims (Form 19, Form 10-C, and Form 31) entirely online. The portal addresses years of challenges where simple tasks like UAN activation or withdrawal claims required long queues, paperwork, and constant follow-ups with employers.
The new portal introduces several key improvements including Direct UAN Allotment - allowing members to self-generate their UAN without employer assistance. Claims up to ₹5 lakh for KYC-compliant members are now processed automatically with same-day credit in many cases. The system calculates interest on PF contributions up to the date payment is authorized, ensuring fairer treatment for members facing processing delays. Centralised architecture means requests are no longer tied to specific regional offices, enabling faster processing regardless of location changes. Members can now track claim status, check passbook balances, and raise queries all from a single dashboard.
EPFO has simplified the process for managing unclaimed EPF accounts through its digital portal. Members can now retrieve their old or forgotten UAN by visiting the UAN Member Portal and selecting 'Know Your UAN', providing details like PAN, Aadhaar and Member ID. If the UAN is not activated, members can get it done by providing KYC documents like Aadhaar, PAN and bank details at the nearest EPFO office. Withdrawal from dormant EPF accounts is possible by submitting Form 19/10C, though processing may take longer than active accounts. Notably, claiming an EPF balance is free of charge, though tax may apply on certain withdrawals depending on applicable EPF and Income Tax rules.
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has credited ₹440.90 crore in monthly pensions to 4,40,901 pensioners in Kerala amid the harvest Onam festival celebrations. According to reports from PTI, the amount was disbursed through the retirement fund body's Centralised Pension Payment System (CPPS), which facilitates direct transfer of pension to beneficiary bank accounts across the country. The Labour Ministry statement indicated that special arrangements were made to enable pensioners and their families to meet their financial requirements and celebrate the festival without inconvenience.
Pensioners can check their EPF balance through multiple digital channels including the Umang app, SMS services, and missed calls. As reported by PTI, members can check their balance by missed call to 9966044425 from their registered mobile number or send SMS to 7738299899 in the format EPFOHO <12-digit UAN>. Physical Life Certificate submission is mandatory to banks through which pension is paid, with failure to submit after one year resulting in pension stoppage after 12 months. Digital Life Certificate (DLC) has been introduced since FY16, allowing pensioners to use their Aadhaar number for submission through Common Service Centers and Pension Disbursing Banks across India. Additionally, if both accounts are linked to the same UAN, members can transfer balance online instead of opting to Withdraw Unclaimed EPF, helping maintain service continuity.
