The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana has achieved unprecedented success with over 5.14 lakh registrations within seven days of launch on 1 August, as per CM Rekha Gupta. According to reports from Mint, Gupta called the response "unprecedented" and added that the volume of registrations reflected a trust in the scheme. As of 8 August, 5,14,460 women registered for the scheme, and 2,18,728 applications were submitted, as per data from the Delhi CM's Office (CMO). The latest data shows that 4,36,316 beneficiaries have entered their district or Assembly constituency details, while 78,144 are yet to provide this information. As per CM Rekha Gupta, "No government scheme has seen such a record number of registrations in such a short time. The public response to the scheme is historic."
District-wise data reveals significant variation in registration patterns across Delhi's 11 districts. North-East district recorded the highest number of registrations at 73,676, followed by North-West with 55,700 registrations and West district with 44,358 registrations. New Delhi recorded the lowest number, with 5,573 registrations. This distribution pattern indicates varying levels of awareness and interest in different parts of the national capital, with North-East district showing the strongest response to the scheme.
The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana will provide ₹2,500 monthly financial assistance to women from economically weaker sections (EWS) in the national capital, starting this year. As reported by Mint, beneficiaries can choose between two options: ₹1,000 available through a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet for daily expenses, with the remaining ₹1,500 deposited in an RD/FD, or the entire ₹2,500 being deposited in an RD/FD. The state government has allocated ₹5,100 crore for the scheme in the annual budget for FY27. The government has implemented the scheme through a technology-driven system covering application submission, document verification, eligibility assessment, approval, PFMS integration, banking services and payments, with each application undergoing a four-level scrutiny and approval process.
According to Mint, the scheme targets women aged 21 to 60 years with annual family income not exceeding ₹2,50,000. Key eligibility requirements include the applicant being the eldest female family member, having lived in Delhi for at least 10 years, being a registered voter, and having electricity consumption not exceeding 2,400 units in the previous 12 months. The applicant cannot be a pension recipient, income-tax payee, government servant, or own a four-wheeler motor vehicle. Additionally, the family should not have more than three children and no criminal record. CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that the Delhi government was committed to fulfilling its electoral promise of economically empowering women, stating that the enthusiasm shown by women indicated that the scheme had the potential to bring positive change to millions of families.
As reported by Mint, applicants can register through the official Delhi Lakshmi Yojana portal at dly.delhi.gov.in. The application process requires uploading Aadhaar card, Delhi voter ID, recent photo, MP/MLA endorsement letter, proof of 10-year Delhi residence, and age documentation. The state government aims to release the first instalment to eligible beneficiaries on Raksha Bandhan, 28 August this month. Applicants can track their application status through the portal's 'Track Application' feature using their registered mobile number and date of birth. The Chief Minister noted that the enthusiasm and trust with which women have embraced the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana is proof that the scheme will bring positive change to the lives of millions of families.
