
The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) has re-appointed Sundeep Sikka, Managing Director & CEO of Nippon Life India Asset Management, as Chairman and Vishal Kapoor, CEO of Bandhan AMC, as Vice Chairman. According to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine, Mint, Moneycontrol, and Rediff Moneynews, both executives were unanimously re-elected by the Board of Directors following AMFI's Annual General Meeting held on August 28, 2026. Sikka is serving his second term as AMFI Chairman, demonstrating continued confidence in his leadership capabilities. The appointments were made unanimously by AMFI's board following the industry body's annual general meeting. As per AMFI, both executives will continue to guide the strategic growth of the sector, with aim to strengthen market trust and boost nationwide financial inclusion.
Sundeep Sikka brings over 30 years of financial services experience to his role as AMFI Chairman. As reported by Mint, he joined Nippon Life India Asset Management in 2003 and became one of the youngest CEOs in India's mutual fund industry in 2009. During his tenure, the company has expanded its scale, established a strategic partnership with Nippon Life Insurance, acquired Goldman Sachs Asset Management India and subsequently listed on the stock exchange. Sikka has also led several industry committees and is associated with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). He holds a management degree from Harvard Business School.
Vishal Kapoor brings more than three decades of experience in financial services, spanning asset management and banking. According to Mint, he currently serves as CEO of Bandhan AMC where he is overseeing the organisation's next phase of growth, including strengthening its distribution network, accelerating digital adoption and expanding its product portfolio across equity, fixed income and alternatives. Before joining Bandhan AMC, Kapoor worked at Standard Chartered Bank as Managing Director and Head of Wealth Management. He has also been associated with American Express and ITC Threadneedle AMC in various roles, serving as Senior Director and Head of Financial Advisory Services in India and Director and Head of Products for American Express Global Financial Services in New York. Kapoor holds a management degree from IIM Ahmedabad and a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from St Xavier's College, Kolkata.
The re-elected leadership team will continue to guide the strategic growth of India's mutual fund sector as the mutual fund industry focuses on expanding investor participation and strengthening distribution and financial inclusion across the country. The Association of Mutual Funds in India serves as the apex industry body representing all SEBI-registered Asset Management Companies (AMCs) in the country. Kapoor notably chairs AMFI's Standing Committee for Mutual Fund Distributors and has been associated with the Financial Planning and Standards Board of India and the Financial Intermediaries Association of India as a Director. AMFI represents all mutual fund asset management companies registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi). As per Rediff Moneynews, Sikka and Kapoor will continue to lead AMFI's efforts towards the strategic growth of the country's mutual fund industry, strengthening investor trust and promoting financial inclusion.
