Delhi airport achieved a significant milestone with 38.5 million passengers handled in the first half of FY27, representing a 5% increase from the previous year's 36.7 million passengers. According to GMR Airports, this growth was driven by increased domestic and international travel demand. The airport's Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) also showed strong performance, jumping 6.9% to 2,33,331 during the same period. As reported by ETInfra, this represents the highest-ever H1 total passenger traffic in the first six months of the current fiscal year.
The passenger traffic breakdown for H1 FY27 shows domestic traffic reaching 28.1 million and international traffic at 10.4 million, bringing the total to 38.5 million passengers. The average monthly traffic stood around 6.5 million during this period, as reported by GMR Airports. During this period, the domestic traffic climbed to 28.1 million while the international traffic increased to 10.4 million, taking the total traffic to 38.5 million passengers.
The previous year's performance was significantly impacted by temporary flight disruptions caused by airspace curbs, geopolitical developments, and runway upgradation works. According to GMR Airports, the passenger traffic at Delhi airport had touched 78.7 million in 2025-26, but the first half of that year saw declining traffic due to these operational challenges. The airport operates with three terminals (T1, T2, and T3) and four operational runways.
Currently, Delhi airport has an annual passenger handling capacity of 106 million spread across the three terminals, with capacities of 42 million, 14 million, and 50 million at T1, T2, and T3 respectively. At T3, there is domestic capacity of 19 million and international capacity of 31 million. The airport's latest ten-year master plan targets 125 million annual passenger handling capacity, with 86 million designated for domestic traffic and 39 million for international traffic.
Beyond Delhi, GMR Airports operates airports at Hyderabad, Mopa in Goa, Nagpur, Bhogapuram and Medan in Indonesia. According to the company's regulatory filing, the total passenger traffic at all GMR-operated airports rose 0.5% to 58.2 million in the first six months of the current fiscal year compared to the year-ago period. This performance reflects the company's diversified airport portfolio across multiple Indian and international locations.
