Vedanta Group stocks traded higher in morning deals on Friday, October 16, tracking a rebound in the broader equity market. At 11:24 am, Vedanta Ltd shares were trading 1.42% higher at ₹249.40 apiece on the NSE, while Hindustan Zinc was up 2.17% to ₹542.50. Among the demerged entities, Vedanta Power gained 0.61% to ₹32.73, while Vedanta Iron and Steel rose 1.23% to ₹29.68. Vedanta Oil and Gas advanced 0.35% to ₹31.67, and Vedanta Aluminium Metal was the biggest gainer among the listed entities, rising 4% to ₹374.20.
The recovery was accompanied by exceptionally high trading volumes across all three companies. Vedanta Power shares saw 3.5 crore shares traded, well above their 20-day average of just over 42 lakh shares. Vedanta Oil & Gas recorded 2.1 crore shares changing hands, which is triple the 20-day average volume of 70 lakh shares at this time of the day. Vedanta Iron & Steel shares have seen 1.75 crore shares change hands by 10:30 AM, compared to its 20-day average volume of 95 lakh shares. Vedanta Oil & Gas has also seen 2.1 crore shares change hands, which is triple the 20-day average volume of 70 lakh shares at this time of the day.
Between October 12 and October 16, Vedanta shares declined around 6.3%, while Hindustan Zinc fell 2%. Vedanta Aluminium Metal was down 2.18%, and Vedanta Iron and Steel slipped 0.34%. In contrast, Vedanta Oil and Gas gained 2.82% over the five-session period, while Vedanta Power advanced 2.50%. The broader market recovery comes amid gains in IT and metal stocks, softer crude oil prices and a stronger rupee, which have helped improve investor sentiment. However, the gains in Vedanta Group shares come after mixed performances over the past five trading sessions, with most of the group's stocks still trading lower during the period.
According to Aditya Thukral, founder and analyst at AT Research and Risk Managers, Vedanta Power has been in a downtrend with the formation of lower highs and lower lows. The stock has been falling in a corrective structure and looks incomplete as of now. Thukral believes there is a high possibility that the stock will experience resistance in the range of ₹34 and ₹36, and a fresh round of selling could be observed. However, based on current formations, the stock has potential long-term bullish implications and could be bought on dips near the ₹26 to ₹28 range, which could be the range where the stock bottoms out. Vipin Kumar, AVP-Research at Globe Capital Market, said the stock is going through a base-building process around current levels, hovering in a range of ₹29.90–₹35 since 2 September 2026. A decisive close above ₹35 will be a positive development that could lead the stock towards ₹38–₹38.50 levels in the near term, with the ₹29.90–₹30 zone providing strong support.
Metal stocks were in the green in Friday's session, with the NIFTY METAL index up 1.35% at 12,179.40 levels. In the past five sessions, the index has surged over 1%. The restructuring allows investors to gain direct exposure to the group's individual businesses, while enabling each entity to pursue its own growth plans, capital allocation priorities and business strategy. Under the demerger scheme, eligible shareholders received one share in each of the four resulting companies for every one share of Vedanta Ltd held on the record date. The four new listings have expanded the group's presence on the stock exchanges and allow investors to assess the businesses individually rather than solely through the diversified parent company.
