GIFT Nifty trading at 23,345 suggests a gap down open by about 55 points as reported in the latest market analysis. The undertone remains cautious as long as the index trades below 23,500, the zone that capped Tuesday's advance. A sustained move above this level opens 23,650, while immediate support rests at 23,200 with a break potentially exposing 23,000. The bias remains mildly cautious at the open, with traders advised to avoid catching falling knives in the IT sector and utilize any structural dips to strictly accumulate domestic-facing sectors like Realty and Pharma until clear directional momentum emerges.
According to Choice Broking's Sachin Gupta, the Nifty is showing signs of stability after six consecutive weeks of decline, but has yet to confirm a change in the broader trend. The index needs to move above the 23,500-23,600 resistance zone and sustain those levels for recovery momentum. On the downside, 23,200-23,000 remains the key support area to watch, with a break below 23,000 signaling renewed weakness. The current consolidation phase suggests the 23,000-23,600 range will set the tone for the next leg of the market, with a decisive move beyond this range providing clearer signals on the trend direction.
The broader market shows a constructive setup with both Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap holding up relatively well despite benchmark volatility. Among the broader indices, Choice Broking expects Nifty Smallcap 250 to outperform, supported by stronger momentum and a move above its long-term falling trendline. The immediate hurdle for Smallcap is around 18,450-18,500, with potential targets at 18,800-19,000. Sectorally, pharma and healthcare have shown better relative strength, backed by fresh buying interest and improving momentum, while FMCG and Realty remain relatively resilient. However, IT and Metal sectors show the clearest signs of weakness, with IT below key moving averages and Metal facing resistance around 13,300-13,500 levels.
Sectorally, metals and banking stocks led the advance while healthy participation in the broader market reflected improving investor confidence. Nifty Metal gained more than 2%, Nifty FMCG rose 1.27%, Nifty Pharma gained 0.72%, Nifty PSU Bank rose 0.97% and Nifty Auto advanced 0.25%. However, Nifty IT was the major sectoral laggard, falling more than 1%, while Nifty Media declined 0.63%. The mixed sectoral performance reflects selective buying patterns with investors showing preference for domestic-facing sectors over technology stocks. Nifty IT continues to remain one of the weaker parts of the market, facing challenges including slower global IT spending, generative AI adoption, and higher H-1B visa costs.
