X has officially launched its U.S. Cashtag Partner Program, connecting users directly from stock, ETF, and cryptocurrency discussions to eligible trading services. According to X's official announcement, the program has gone live with five initial partners: Coinbase, Gemini, Kraken, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo. When users tap a supported cashtag, they can view information tied to the asset represented by the ticker, with a new 'Trade' option that redirects them to a participating platform. X does not execute trades itself under this arrangement - instead, the social platform connects users with participating financial companies where account requirements, identity checks, and trading conditions apply.
The program covers multiple financial service types, with Coinbase, Gemini, and Kraken known primarily for crypto trading, while Interactive Brokers provides access to stocks, options, futures, currencies, and other markets. Moomoo offers stocks, options, and cryptocurrency services through its respective regulated entities. As reported by crypto.news, X product engineering lead Mridul Singhai explained that the feature 'narrows the distance between a ticker appearing on a timeline and the market linked to it', allowing users to open live charts, read asset conversations, and choose a partner when deciding to trade. Cashtags use the dollar sign format (e.g., $BTC for Bitcoin or $COIN for Coinbase shares), which traders already use to organize financial posts and follow asset conversations.
According to crypto.news reports from April, X introduced smart cashtags for iPhone users in the United States and Canada with live charts, asset-specific posts, and support for cryptocurrency contract addresses. The earlier version allowed users to select the correct asset or smart contract when adding a ticker to a post, opening dedicated pages containing price information and related discussions. Canadian users received trading links through Wealthsimple, while U.S. trading had not yet been enabled. The new partner program brings the brokerage-link model to American users and increases participation from the single Canadian integration, while keeping order execution within the selected brokerage rather than adding an X-operated exchange to the social platform.
For cryptocurrency users, the inclusion of Coinbase, Gemini, and Kraken provides connections to three established U.S.-focused exchanges. As reported by crypto.news, Kraken has expanded beyond crypto by adding 7,000 stocks for eligible European Economic Area customers in August, placing traditional U.S.-listed shares beside tokenized xStocks and over 600 crypto assets. Kraken entered U.S. stock trading in 2025 and reached $25 billion in total volume including $3.5 billion in on-chain transactions, with 80,000 on-chain holders. Coinbase has added U.S. stocks and ETFs to its main platform, allowing eligible customers to manage traditional securities and crypto through one account. American users remain subject to each provider's onboarding process, state-level availability, and product restrictions, meaning a cashtag may display market information even when a particular user cannot trade through every listed partner.
According to Monique Pintarelli, SpaceXAI's head of global advertising, the partner program connects financial discussions on X with actionable steps through brokerages. 'People come to X to discover what's happening, shape the conversation, and act in real-time on what matters to them,' Pintarelli stated. The rollout adds another financial feature to X as the company develops its planned Everything App model, which includes X Money for peer-to-peer transfers, direct deposits, a debit card, and yields on eligible balances. X previously secured money-transmitter licenses across more than 40 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., and registered with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. The company also partnered with Visa to support transfers between bank accounts and X Money wallets, though the Cashtag Partner Program routes investment activity to outside brokerages rather than holding or executing trades within the social platform.
