Upexi shares fell 8.16% on Tuesday following the release of disappointing third-quarter results. According to reports from CoinDesk, the Solana treasury company reported a net loss of $109.3 million, representing a significant deterioration from the $3.8 million loss recorded in the same quarter of the previous year. The market reaction reflects investor concerns over the company's widening losses despite continued expansion of its Solana token holdings.
The primary driver of Upexi's wider losses was $92.3 million in unrealized losses on digital assets, as reported by CoinDesk. The company attributed this figure to non-cash quarter-end fair value changes tied to its Solana holdings. Despite these losses, Upexi demonstrated operational growth with revenue rising to approximately $4.6 million from $3.2 million in the year-ago period. Digital asset revenue specifically reached $3.5 million for the quarter, supported by staking activities. The company's gross profit reached $4.4 million, up 179% year-over-year, due to the addition of the digital asset treasury business.
Despite the financial challenges, Upexi continued expanding its Solana token holdings during the quarter. According to the company's earnings call transcript, Solana tokens increased by about 189,000 during the quarter, representing a 9% increase. As of March 31, Upexi held 2.5 million Solana tokens and $3.5 million in cash, with approximately 1.4 million tokens being liquid and around 1 million locked. CEO Allan Marshall noted that the quarter was shaped by challenging market conditions for crypto treasury firms, including pressure from Solana's price decline and lower industry valuation multiples.
Upexi implemented several strategic measures during the quarter to strengthen its financial position. As reported by CoinDesk, the company repurchased about 2.9 million shares, reduced short-term debt by $7.6 million, and completed a $36 million convertible note tied to locked Solana tokens. The company also completed a $7.4 million registered direct offering and reduced ongoing operational costs, including the reduction of employee count to 10 employees. Despite these efforts, Upexi remains behind Forward Industries in terms of Solana holdings, with Forward Industries holding 7,013,536 SOL according to CoinGecko data. The company also participated in the Solana ecosystem through its backing of a $5 million funding round for startup OnRe, which is building reinsurance infrastructure on Solana.
