Hyundai Motor India Ltd reported an 8.8% rise in total sales to 65,796 units in August, driven primarily by exceptional domestic demand. According to latest reports, the company's domestic sales surged 23.6% year-on-year to a record 54,396 units, marking the highest-ever figure for any August month. This strong domestic performance reflects the popularity of Hyundai's versatile product portfolio and sustained consumer demand in the Indian market, with the company continuing to sustain strong growth momentum in FY2027. The August numbers underline the continued strength of Hyundai's portfolio in India's passenger vehicle market, with models ranging from hatchbacks and sedans to SUVs and electric vehicles. Tarun Garg, MD & CEO of Hyundai Motor India Ltd, expressed optimism about the company's performance trajectory and future prospects, noting that the record August domestic figure reflected demand for the company's product portfolio.
While domestic sales reached new heights, exports faced significant headwinds during the month. As reported by Hyundai Motor India Limited, exports declined to 11,400 units in August, impacted by logistical constraints arising from the ongoing conflict in West Asia and broader geo-political environment. The company noted that these external factors created challenges for international shipments during the reporting period, with total exports in August being significantly impacted by the geo-political situation. According to The Economic Times, exports have been under strain since the first quarter of the current fiscal, when shipments fell 19.6% to 38,708 units compared with 48,140 units in the same period last year. The decline was attributed to the West Asia conflict as well as a temporary production disruption caused by a fire at the facility of one of its suppliers, Mobis. However, the company remains optimistic that export demand will continue to be strong in the coming months as the geopolitical situation improves.
The company's 12.6% year-on-year growth in domestic sales during the April-August period of FY2027 demonstrates consistent growth momentum throughout the financial year. According to Hyundai Motor India Limited, this sustained performance reflects the company's ability to maintain strong market positioning despite external challenges. The August results showcase Hyundai's resilience in the Indian automotive market while facing international trade disruptions. The company operates 1,366 sales points and 1,550 service points across India, giving it a sizeable retail and after-sales network to support its domestic business. With domestic sales reaching a record high for an August month and registering double-digit growth during the April-August period, Hyundai enters the upcoming months with continued momentum in the Indian market.
