The global cryptocurrency market has experienced a significant decline from its post-election highs, with the market cap falling to $2.41 trillion from a recent peak of $2.43 trillion. According to reports from AMBCrypto, this represents a 0.81% decline over the past 24 hours. The market surge following Donald Trump's election as the 47th President in November 2024 saw the market cap surge from near $2.29 trillion to $3.71 trillion by the end of 2024, and reach a peak of $4.20 trillion by October 2025. However, the market has now fallen to nearly half of that all-time high, reflecting what industry observers are calling the end of the crypto honeymoon period.
Nic Puckrin, CEO & Co-Founder of Coin Bureau, has publicly acknowledged the market strain, stating via X that "The post-election crypto honeymoon is officially over." As reported by AMBCrypto, Puckrin referenced Barclays data showing that global crypto trading activity has declined to levels not seen since the end of 2023. He highlighted specific trading volume declines, noting that Coinbase's Exchange Trading Volume fell to $1.54 billion by the end of Q1 2026, representing a 30% decline from Q4 2025. March was identified as the lowest month since September 2024, according to Puckrin's analysis.
The Crypto Fear and Greed Index has remained in the "Extreme Fear" zone at 12, confirming the bearish sentiment according to AMBCrypto reports. This represents a significant shift from post-election levels when the index reached the 90 mark indicating "extreme greed." The index has oscillated between the 'Fear' and 'Extreme Fear' zones since mid-January 2026, even during escalating U.S.-Iran tensions when Bitcoin and Ethereum continued trading in the 'Extreme Fear' zone. Bitcoin price action has also reflected this decline, trading at $67,000 before the election, peaking at an all-time high of $124,700, and currently trading at $70,883.15.
Bitcoin ETF Net Daily Inflows & Outflows data for 2026 shows more frequent and consistent outflows compared to previous years, with smaller and less aggressive inflows. According to AMBCrypto, the Social Volume of Bitcoin and several altcoins has also seen a decline from 2024 to 2026. The Bitcoin ETF data reveals that 2024 was characterized by extreme spikes on both sides, 2025 showed mostly balanced flows, while 2026 has been quiet with consistent outflows. These metrics collectively suggest that while Puckrin's assessment may be accurate, increased volatility continues to characterize the current market environment.
