According to the latest announcement from Coinbase, Webull Canada and Coinbase officially expanded their partnership on August 31, 2026, bringing cryptocurrency trading and custody services to Canada. Under the arrangement, Webull Canada will be built on Coinbase's Crypto-as-a-Service platform and will use Coinbase's institutional-grade custody and trading services. The Canada expansion follows similar launches of the partnership in the United States, Brazil, and Australia, with Coinbase serving as Webull's crypto infrastructure partner in the country. As reported by Coinbase, the partnership globally has allowed Webull to expand its crypto offering across multiple countries, driving higher notional trading volumes on the Webull platform. Coinbase and Webull Pay are building on a shared commitment to expanding access to crypto through compliant, reliable infrastructure and a user experience designed for the next generation of digital finance.
The expansion is supported by strong Canadian crypto adoption data from the Ontario Securities Commission's 2025 crypto asset survey, which found that 25% of Canadians own crypto assets or crypto funds, up from 10% in 2023. The survey of 2,360 Canadians found that 59% are aware of crypto assets, with half of crypto owners reporting that they checked whether their crypto asset trading platform is registered before using it, up from 38% in 2023. Among Canadians aware of crypto assets, 38% indicated they were highly likely to purchase crypto assets in the future, up 18 percentage points from 2023. Webull Canada Crypto Limited operates as a regulated investment dealer under the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization and is also a Canadian Investor Protection Fund member, offering order-execution-only services without portfolio recommendations. However, crypto assets held through Webull Canada will not receive CIPF protection, though eligible cash in crypto trading accounts may qualify for coverage within applicable limits.
According to the latest announcement, Webull Canada announced plans in June to introduce crypto trading after receiving regulatory approval, with the service supporting 24-hour trading in assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Cardano, and Litecoin. Beta access was expected to begin with selected clients before reaching more users. The platform will allow customers to fund accounts, monitor portfolios, access reports, and trade digital assets within the existing Webull platform. Webull serves more than 27 million registered users globally and operates licensed brokerage businesses across 16 markets. Webull selected Coinbase based on its comprehensive offering of assets, global coverage, flexibility and scale, its position as a trusted and compliant publicly traded company and its competitive pricing. By combining deep liquidity, secure infrastructure, and the technology trusted by many of the world's leading institutions, Coinbase is helping Webull deliver a stronger crypto experience for its users.
As reported by crypto.news, Webull Canada entered Canada in January 2024 after obtaining regulatory authorization in November 2023, initially offering access to Canadian and U.S. equities. The company's Canadian brokerage already provides Canadian and U.S.-listed shares, exchange-traded funds and options, along with cash, margin, tax-free savings and retirement accounts. While Webull Securities (Canada) Limited belongs to the Canadian Investor Protection Fund, crypto assets do not qualify for CIPF coverage, with the distinction mattering because CIPF generally covers missing property when a member investment dealer becomes insolvent. On the Coinbase side, Coinbase Canada, Inc. is registered as a Restricted Dealer in all provinces and territories of Canada, according to the announcement's disclaimer, which also states that trading in crypto assets may result in the loss of invested capital. Michael Constantino, CEO of Webull Canada, emphasized that "Canadian investors expect access to a growing range of asset classes, and crypto has become an increasingly important part of that mix." He added that "Our partnership with Coinbase provides the infrastructure needed to deliver this offering with the scale and reliability our clients expect. As adoption continues to grow across the country, we remain focused on giving investors secure, regulated tools to build their portfolios on their own terms."
