Coinbase has positioned itself strongly in the agent payment market through its stablecoin focus. According to the company's Q1 2026 earnings call reported by crypto.news, AI agents use USDC in 99% of transactions and more than 90% run on Base. The company's Agentic.market platform provides AI agents with a marketplace to discover and buy services using USDC through x402, having already settled about 165 million transactions when it launched. Base handled 85% of the 165 million x402 transactions, giving Coinbase a strong position in the early agent payment market, where low fees and fast settlement matter for internet-speed payments.
Major technology companies are expanding agent payment capabilities through partnerships with Coinbase. AWS launched Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments in preview, built with Coinbase and Stripe, to enable agents to make stablecoin micropayments through x402. AWS stated that AgentCore Payments allows agents to discover, authorize, and execute x402 payments with wallet management, spending limits, and audit logs. Stripe has also moved into the same market, launching x402 payments on Base allowing AI agents to pay for APIs, data, and compute with USDC. Additionally, Google Cloud and Solana are building a parallel route through Pay.sh, enabling AI agents to access services like Gemini, BigQuery, and Vertex AI APIs using stablecoin payments on Solana.
