Coinbase has launched a high-yield USDC vault powered by Ethena assets, expanding its in-app DeFi lending capabilities. According to reports from crypto.news, the product operates through Morpho-based lending markets and uses vault allocations curated by Steakhouse Financial. The launch introduces a second lending option that offers exposure to a wider range of collateral assets, complementing Coinbase's existing Prime USDC vault.
The Prime USDC vault focuses on collateral such as cbBTC, cbETH, and wstETH, positioning around assets considered higher quality within the lending framework. As reported by crypto.news, the High Yield vault accepts a broader collateral mix, including Ethena-related assets such as USDe. Steakhouse Financial separates both products according to collateral exposure, with Prime vaults maintaining a narrower profile and High-yield vaults permitting assets with different liquidity characteristics. The system keeps lending activity within the Coinbase application while executing operations through decentralized infrastructure.
Ethena gains another distribution channel through the Coinbase ecosystem, with USDe serving as one of the assets connected to the collateral structure. According to the project design reported by crypto.news, USDe uses crypto-backed collateral and hedging strategies, differing from reserve-backed stablecoins such as USDC and USDT. The new vault provides Coinbase users access to lending products that include exposure to markets supported by those assets, without requiring movement to external applications.
Users can now lend USDC through the High Yield vault without leaving the exchange application, with deposited funds entering lending markets where borrowers pay interest to lenders. As reported by crypto.news, the system maintains Coinbase's existing consumer interface while underlying transactions move through onchain infrastructure. The lending mechanics operate through Morpho smart contracts, with depositors receiving interest generated from borrower activity and returns depending on conditions inside the underlying lending markets.
The launch adds another onchain financial product to Coinbase's consumer platform, continuing the company's expansion of products connected to onchain services. According to crypto.news, Coinbase recently introduced Coinbase for Agents to support transactions through AI-powered assistants, with Base-related systems processing more than 100 million AI agent transactions. The lending vault launch represents part of Coinbase's broader strategy to deepen on-chain financial services, combining exchange access with decentralized infrastructure through the vault system.
