
Tata Teleservices Maharashtra shares surged as much as 11% on Friday, August 28, marking their biggest single-day move since May 22, 2025. The stock hit an intraday high of ₹40.50 on the National Stock Exchange, significantly outperforming the broader market. As of 2:34 pm, the shares were trading 7% higher at ₹38.89, outperforming the NIFTY500 index which was trading on a flat note. This represents a substantial upgrade from the previous day's performance when the stock had jumped 10% following the AI partnership announcement.
Tata Teleservices announced a strategic collaboration with Tata Communications aimed at expanding digital solutions for more than 60 million small and medium businesses in India. The partnership combines Tata Tele Business Services' extensive reach among SMBs with Tata Communications' cloud, communications and AI capabilities to create an integrated AI platform stack for the segment. MD & CEO of Tata Communications, Ganesh Lakshminarayanan, commented that "India's AI opportunity will be realised not only through large enterprises, but by empowering millions of SMBs with access to world-class digital infrastructure and intelligence capabilities." The collaboration combines their complementary strengths to unlock a large, underserved market opportunity and expand the total addressable market (TAM) for both organisations.
The collaboration will offer AI-powered voice agents that can handle customer calls, answer routine queries, schedule appointments, follow up with customers and process orders using dedicated phone numbers. The partnership utilizes Tata Communications' Voice AI platform powered by Agentic AI, which is among the first in the industry to offer speech-to-speech customer engagement solution with instant decision making, multilingual fluency, and sub-500 milliseconds latency performance. Tata Teleservices Business Services will provide voice infrastructure and secure connectivity, while the service will utilize Tata Communications' conversational AI platform Commotion and Vayu AI Cloud. This approach aims to help India's small and medium businesses use AI without investing in complicated or expensive enterprise technology.
Harjit Singh, MD of Tata Teleservices, emphasized that "India's SMB sector represents one of the world's largest untapped opportunities for AI-led transformation." The company noted that by bringing together Tata Communications' communications capabilities with TTBS' extensive reach into the SMB sector, the companies are integrating their respective platforms for simpler, more accessible and easier to deploy advanced AI solutions for businesses without the complexity, cost or technical barriers typically associated with enterprise-grade technology. Despite the recent rally, the stock has remained down 28.9% over a year and 19.37% in 2026. As reported by NDTV Profit, the stock is currently trading at a price-to-earnings multiple of 189.92 times, with a market capitalization of ₹7,821.7 crore. The collaboration is positioned as a powerful example of how Tata Group companies can work together to expand access, create new value for customers, and unlock future growth opportunities in India's AI market.
