The Tata Punch has crossed 8 lakh units in domestic sales, becoming the second SUV in Tata Motors' current passenger vehicle lineup, after the Nexon, to reach this milestone. According to reports from Zee News, the figures combine wholesales of the Punch petrol, CNG, and electric versions, since Tata Motors does not report separate numbers for its ICE and EV models. The company reached this milestone approximately four years and eight months after the Punch's launch in October 2021. This achievement makes the Punch the fastest compact SUV to achieve 800,000 sales, surpassing the Maruti Brezza (80 months), Hyundai Venue (85 months), and Tata Nexon (89 months) to this milestone in the domestic market. The Punch achieved this impressive feat by adding 1 lakh units in just five months, with the remaining 2,521 units needed to cross the 8 lakh mark sold within the first few days of July 2026.
As reported by Zee News, the company dispatched 7,97,479 units of the Punch between its launch in October 2021 and the end of June 2026. The Punch recorded its highest-ever monthly wholesales in June 2026, with 21,006 units dispatched. It was also India's bestselling SUV in the first quarter of FY2027, with 60,321 units sold during the period. The accelerated pace of sales is evident in the fact that the Punch has crossed monthly sales of over 20,000 units only thrice since launch nearly five years ago, and all three instances have come this year itself. The model achieved impressive growth momentum with monthly sales of 18,748 units in February (up 29% year-on-year), 20,977 units in March (up 18%), 19,107 units in April (up 53%), 20,208 units in May (up 54%), and 21,006 units in June (up 101%).
Between February and June 2026, the Punch added another 1 lakh units to its tally, with monthly wholesales during this period standing at 18,748 units in February, 20,977 in March, 19,107 in April, 20,208 in May, and 21,006 in June. According to Zee News, monthly sales have crossed the 20,000-unit mark on three occasions since the model's launch, and all three instances occurred this year. The company's stellar performance in Q1 FY2027, wherein it accounted for 32% of Tata Motors' passenger vehicle dispatches of 187,953 units (up 45% YoY), helped the company outsell Mahindra & Mahindra (174,745 units, up 15% YoY), which was ahead of Tata in Q1 FY2026. With strong bookings across all powertrains and the Punch well set to achieve both the 200,000-unit and 250,000-unit milestones for the first time in a fiscal year, the model is positioned for continued growth.
As reported by Zee News, Tata Motors had launched the Punch facelift in January this year, introducing exterior and interior updates, additional features, and new powertrain options. The lineup now includes a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine (120hp and 170 Nm of torque, 0-100kph: 11.1 seconds), a CNG-AMT option using the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine (73hp and 103 Nm), and an updated Punch EV with revised battery choices, along with a Battery-as-a-Service programme. The new MY2026 Punch EV comes with two battery options—30 kWh (ARAI-certified range of 365km) and 40 kWh (468km range), replacing the earlier 24 kWh and 34 kWh packs. Currently, the Punch comes in petrol, CNG, and electric versions, spread across 32 variants. Petrol prices start at ₹5.70 lakh, CNG starts at ₹6.80 lakh, and the updated Punch EV starts at ₹9.69 lakh, all ex-showroom. The facelifted model, launched at ₹559,000 in January 2026, features updated interiors and exteriors inspired by the Tata Punch EV, new features, and new powertrains.
According to Zee News, its closest direct rivals are the Hyundai Exter and Citroën C3, while budget-conscious buyers also compare it to entry-level sub-compact SUVs like the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. The Punch's strong performance demonstrates its appeal across different market segments and price points in India's competitive SUV market. The Punch has set new benchmarks for compact SUVs in India, becoming the first SUV in India to reach 100,000 wholesale units in just 10 months in August 2022. The journey from 400,000 to 500,000 units took six months, while reaching 600,000 units took 11 months, with the last 100,000 units sold in just five months. The Punch's comprehensive updates, including Punch EV-inspired interiors and exterior styling, new features, and competitive mileage (1.2L petrol delivers 18.8-20.09kpl ARAI, CNG delivers up to 26.99 km/kg), support its market leadership position in the compact SUV segment. With its rugged design, affordability, and practical features, it has carved a solid niche in the compact SUV segment, reflecting Tata Motors' growing dominance and signaling continued momentum for the Punch in the coming years.
