Tata Digital has appointed three senior executives over the last two months as part of its rebuilding efforts following a prolonged restructuring period. According to reports from Business Standard, Rajesh Naik has joined as chief technology officer (CTO), Chandramouli Gopalakrishnan has been named chief product officer (CPO), and Snigdha Singh has taken the position of chief human resources officer (CHRO). The company confirmed these appointments in response to email inquiries from Business Standard. The development comes at a time when Tata Digital is undergoing a broader leadership reshuffle as the company reorganizes its digital operations.
The leadership appointments come as Tata Digital CEO and Managing Director Sajith Sivanandan reorganizes the company with a greater focus on financial services offerings. As reported by Business Standard, company sources indicate that hiring has resumed at the middle level after the restructuring period. An employee familiar with the situation noted that almost 200-250 people were laid off, with several senior executives also leaving due to organizational changes. The company is now focused on filling vacant positions as it rebuilds its leadership team.
The new appointments follow significant leadership transitions at Tata Digital. According to Business Standard, Vinay Vaidya, who was serving as CTO, has joined ecommerce platform Flipkart as senior vice president of technology. Similarly, Janaki Naik, the previous CHRO, has joined Prudential Health India in a similar role. Prior to Naik's appointment, Vinay Vaidya was serving as the company's CTO where he led technology strategy, platform modernisation and large-scale digital transformation. In June 2025, Naveen Tahilyani stepped down as CEO and MD after taking charge for less than a year, with Sivanandan subsequently appointed to the position.
Media reports indicate that during recent Tata Sons board meetings, questions were raised on the large investment in its ecommerce foray. As reported by Business Standard, the company has requested additional funding of ₹7,000 crore. Business strategist Lloyd Mathias noted that Tata Digital faces pressure to improve execution after a prolonged period of restructuring and leadership churn, with challenges in consolidating the group's digital assets under one umbrella.
According to Mathias' analysis reported by Business Standard, Tata Digital's super app strategy on Tata Neu has struggled to gain traction in India due to consumer behavior patterns. He explained that Indian consumers are highly value-conscious and tend to use different apps for different services, creating challenges for super app models in the Indian market. The company operates in a low-trust environment where people don't want to put all their eggs in one basket. Mathias noted that Tata Digital has had a challenging journey consolidating the group's digital assets under one umbrella, with publicly evident concerns over its performance and pressure on the company to deliver on Tata's larger digital mandate.
