Tata AIA Life Insurance has launched two new cancer insurance products targeting income protection and savings continuity for policyholders. According to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine, the company unveiled Sampoorna Care - Cancer and Sampoorna Care - Cancer Fund, designed to address income loss and savings disruption caused by cancer diagnoses. As reported by Tata AIA, these products together form India's most comprehensive response to the full financial and medical cost of a cancer diagnosis. Sujeet Kothare, Chief Business Officer – Proprietary Business, Propositions & Marketing, Tata AIA Life Insurance, emphasized that "A cancer diagnosis in an Indian family can be both emotionally and financially draining. It can disrupt the rhythm of a steady income, as patients may need time to recover fully and regain their earning potential."
Sampoorna Care - Cancer offers coverage up to ₹50 lakh with flexible payout options including 100% lump sum, regular monthly income, or a combination of upfront payment followed by income stream for up to five years. The product includes an industry-first 30-year rate guarantee on premiums, Diagnostic Benefit for early-stage screening costs, and Overseas Treatment Booster providing an additional 10% of sum assured for international treatment within specified periods after diagnosis. According to Tata AIA, this income replacement built into a health plan is something no conventional cancer policy in India has offered before. The product addresses the reality that cancer doesn't just generate medical bills - it interrupts income and pauses careers at the very moment families need stability the most.
The launch was informed by consumer research showing strong preferences for income-structured payouts. According to Tata AIA, two out of three consumers called the income-linked cancer protection proposition unique, with half of all consumers wanting a salary substitute rather than a cheque. The research revealed that two out of three saw income-linked cancer protection as something the market has never offered them before. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, 48% of respondents wanted payouts structured as income rather than lump sum, with 47% preferring monthly income. The research also showed that 76% wanted income continuation for multiple years, with 42% preferring two-year payout periods and 34% preferring five years. This consumer preference reshapes conventional wisdom that a single lump sum is what families wanted, with the findings showing that half of all consumers do not just want a cheque - they want a salary substitute.
Sampoorna Care - Cancer Fund includes a Health Fund component allowing customers to set aside savings at 1x to 3x of cancer protection premium with tax-free withdrawals for health expenses. The Health Fund is designed to prevent savings from being redirected during medical crises, keeping the savings engine running even when everything else feels like it's falling apart. As reported by Tata AIA, the product also provides Accidental Total and Permanent Disability cover and return of premium options if no cancer diagnosis occurs. Tata AIA reported total premium income of ₹38,164 crore for FY26, up 21% from FY25, and ranks among the top three private insurers by Individual Weighted New Business Premium at ₹10,018 crore.
