REC Ltd has signed two memoranda of understanding with the Government of Tripura to provide ₹15,000 crore in financial support for renewable energy and power infrastructure projects. According to reports from PTI, the agreements were signed during the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026 in the presence of Mr. Ratan Lal Nath, Hon'ble Minister of Power, Tripura. The public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power will provide financial assistance through strategic partnerships with key state entities, with the collaboration formalised by Mr. Subhendu Roy, Chief Program Manager, REC Regional Office, Guwahati and Mr. Biswajit Basu, Managing Director, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).
The first MoU establishes a ₹5,000 crore partnership with the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) to facilitate renewable energy projects across the state. As reported by PTI, TREDA will serve as the nodal agency for renewable energy development and will facilitate the implementation of renewable power projects across the state. The partnership was executed between Mr. Subhendu Roy, Chief Program Manager, REC Regional Office, Guwahati and Mr. D. S. Das, Director General (In-charge), TREDA, with the signing ceremony attended by Mr. K. Ashish Rao, Deputy General Manager (BDM), REC Ltd and Mr. Uttam Kumar Bargayary, Chief Manager, REC Ltd. The initiative aims to accelerate clean energy adoption, unlock Tripura's renewable energy potential, and contribute significantly to the region's sustainable development.
The second MoU creates a ₹10,000 crore partnership with Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) to support power sector projects. According to PTI, this partnership aims to facilitate financing for key power sector initiatives in the state, contributing to the expansion and modernisation of Tripura's power infrastructure. The collaboration is expected to improve power supply reliability, strengthen transmission and distribution systems, support future energy demand in the state, and enhance access to sustainable electricity for citizens. The partnership was formalised by Mr. Subhendu Roy, Chief Program Manager, REC Regional Office, Guwahati and Mr. Biswajit Basu, Managing Director, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), with the initiative ensuring reliable and sustainable electricity access for Tripura's citizens through comprehensive power sector development.
The combined investment support of ₹15,000 crore across conventional power infrastructure and renewable energy projects is expected to boost electricity generation capacity, improve power distribution networks, create new opportunities in the clean energy sector, and support sustainable economic development. As reported by PTI, the initiative reflects REC's continued commitment to enabling sustainable development and strengthening power infrastructure in the Northeast. The partnerships align with India's vision of expanding renewable energy capacity and ensuring reliable power supply across all regions. REC Ltd, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, primarily finances power sector projects and actively undertakes CSR initiatives focused on education, healthcare, skill development, and women empowerment to promote inclusive and sustainable development across India.
REC Ltd has been actively expanding its partnerships across India's power sector. In May 2026, its subsidiary REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) signed a pact with Bihar State Power Transmission Company to develop intra-state transmission projects through tariff-based competitive bidding. The partnership aimed at grid modernisation to minimise transmission losses and improve power quality, while fast-tracking implementation of critical transmission projects and encouraging private investment. Additionally, REC Ltd also signed an MoU with the Electrical Research and Development Association (ERDA) to strengthen quality testing and assurance mechanisms for materials deployed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
