
Maruti Suzuki shares declined over 5% on Tuesday following the release of August sales data, with the stock falling as much as 5.13% to ₹12,851 intraday and trading 4.88% lower at ₹12,882 as of 02:18 PM. According to Business Standard, the auto stock was trading 3.69% lower at ₹12,983 at 1:45 PM, reflecting investor concerns over the sequential decline in sales. The market reaction highlights investor focus on month-on-month performance trends rather than the strong year-on-year growth numbers, with the stock underperforming the broader market as Nifty 50 was trading 0.48% lower at 23,965.75. The latest decline represents a further deterioration from the previous session's 4.62% fall.
Maruti Suzuki India reported total sales of 219,220 units in August 2026, representing a 21.32% year-on-year growth from the previous year's 180,683 units. However, the company experienced a 9.19% sequential decline from July's 241,421 units, as reported by NDTV Profit. The growth was primarily driven by the domestic passenger-vehicle business segment, with the company maintaining its position as India's largest passenger vehicle manufacturer. The August sales numbers come ahead of India's key festive buying period, when automobile demand typically gains momentum.
Domestic passenger vehicle sales demonstrated robust performance with a 34.8% year-on-year increase to 176,971 units. As reported by NDTV Profit, utility-vehicle volumes showed particularly strong momentum with a 46.3% YoY increase to 79,045 units, while passenger-car sales grew 29.4% to 85,965 units. Within the passenger car segment, sales of Alto and S-Presso increased to 8,799 units from 6,853 units, while the compact and mid-size segment comprising Baleno, Celerio, Ciaz, Dzire, Ignis, Swift and WagonR rose to 77,166 units from 59,597 units. Van sales also increased to 11,961 units from 10,785 units, while sales to other original equipment manufacturers declined to 5,298 units in August from 10,095 units a year earlier. The company also sold 3,107 units of its Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) Super Carry, up from 2,772 units in the year-ago period.
Despite strong domestic performance, exports declined 7.4% to 33,844 units in August from 36,538 units a year earlier, as reported by NDTV Profit. However, for the April-August period, exports rose 14.2% to 188,636 units from 165,255 units, indicating a recovery in export momentum. The company's total sales in August included domestic sales of 180,078 units, sales to other OEM of 5,298 units and exports of 33,844 units. For the April-August FY27 period, cumulative sales reached 1.14 million units, up 28.6% YoY from 889,070 units in the corresponding period last year. The company surpassed the milestone of 1 million units in total sales within the first five months of FY 2026-27.
According to Swastika, Maruti Suzuki share price has witnessed a rising trendline breakdown on the daily chart and has slipped below key short- and long-term moving averages, indicating a deterioration in its technical setup. Pravesh Gour from Swastika noted that the price currently around ₹12,996 after breaking below the rising trendline that had been supporting the recent consolidation. The recent fall is accompanied by weakness in the short-term moving averages, with the price trading below the 9-DMA, 20-DMA and 50-DMA, suggesting that near-term momentum has turned bearish. The stock is also struggling around the ₹13,200–₹13,300 zone, which now becomes an immediate resistance area. The ₹12,800–₹12,750 zone is the immediate support, and a decisive break below this area could open the way towards ₹12,500–₹12,400, followed by stronger support around ₹12,200. On the upside, ₹13,200–₹13,300 will be the first hurdle, followed by ₹13,500–₹13,600, with a sustained move above ₹13,600 required to improve the technical setup and bring ₹13,900–₹14,000 into focus.
