Hyundai Motor India achieved its highest-ever monthly total sales of 77,916 units in September 2026, representing a 10.8% year-on-year growth. According to reports from ETAuto, this milestone marks the third monthly record of 2026 and surpasses the company's previous record achieved in July 2026. The record performance has boosted investor confidence, with Hyundai Motor India shares trading 0.2% higher at ₹2,042 on the NSE after hitting intraday lows. The company's total market capitalisation stands at ₹1.66 lakh crore as of October 1, 2026, reflecting strong market confidence in the automaker's performance. Tarun Garg, MD & CEO of Hyundai Motor India Ltd, expressed satisfaction with the September 2026 performance and confirmed the figure surpassed its previous record set just two months earlier, stating the company was delighted to close September with healthy double-digit growth of 10.8% year-on-year. Garg emphasized that the well-rounded growth across domestic and export markets is a testament to the strong appeal of the company's product portfolio and commitment to delivering world-class mobility solutions in India and across global markets.
Domestic sales reached 57,166 units, marking a 10.9% year-on-year increase. As reported by ETAuto, this domestic performance contributed significantly to the overall record-breaking monthly sales figure, with the September growth being well-rounded across domestic and export markets. The strong domestic growth indicates robust demand for Hyundai's vehicles in the Indian market during September 2026. The company expects this positive momentum to continue during the upcoming festive season, supported by new bookings and strong customer enthusiasm. The Creta and i20 both posted their best sales of the calendar year in July, underlining demand for the company's core SUV and hatchback lines even as the numbers reflected some catch-up from June's shortfall. The company anticipates sustained customer enthusiasm during the festive season, also supported by the opening of bookings for the Hyundai Bayon, its upcoming all-new nameplate for the Indian market.
Exports totaled 20,750 units, registering a 10.4% year-on-year growth. According to ETAuto, the export performance maintained strong momentum alongside the domestic market growth. However, the company faced challenges in Q1FY27, with overall sales declining 1.3% YoY to 178,202 units, primarily due to the West Asia crisis impacting export sales. The company sold 38,708 units in Q1FY27 versus 48,140 units in the same period last year, highlighting the impact of geopolitical tensions on international operations. August exports nearly halved from July's level to 11,700 units, dragging total sales to 65,796 units, up a more modest 8.8% year-on-year, with Garg attributing the export weakness to logistical disruptions linked to the conflict in West Asia.
The September performance represents a sharp turnaround from a supplier-fire disruption in June that cost HMIL an estimated 13,900 units and pulled total sales down to 51,335 units that month. As reported by Business Standard, the company had stated at the time that dealer inventory would cushion the impact on retail customers, and that lost volumes would be recovered within the quarter. July sales surged to 75,360 units, a then-record rise of 25.4% year-on-year, with domestic sales climbing 23.3% to 54,210 units and exports jumping 31.4% to 21,150 units — HMIL's strongest export performance in more than 100 months. The recovery illustrates how closely Hyundai's output now tracks both supply-side shocks and external shipping conditions, even as underlying domestic demand has stayed resilient through the April-August period.
Tarun Garg, MD & CEO of Hyundai Motor India Ltd, expressed satisfaction with the September 2026 performance and confirmed the figure surpassed its previous record set just two months earlier. As reported by ETAuto, Garg stated the company was delighted to close September with healthy double-digit growth of 10.8% year-on-year. Looking ahead, the company expects 8-10% growth for FY27, supported by both domestic and international markets tied to demand normalisation and new launches. With three monthly sales records set within a single calendar year — January, July and now September — the carmaker enters the final quarter of the fiscal year with momentum intact, though its export performance remains exposed to geopolitical risk. The company is banking on continued festive-season demand, supported by the opening of bookings for the Hyundai Bayon, its upcoming all-new nameplate for the Indian market.
