The Carlyle Group-backed Highway Roop Precision Technologies Ltd has completed the acquisition of Chamundi Die Cast Private Ltd on September 29, as confirmed in the company's official statement. The acquisition adds Chamundi's aluminium die-casting and precision-machining capabilities to Highway Roop's platform, complementing its existing strengths in forging and machining across steering, transmission and powertrain applications. Mohit Oswal, Chairman of Highway Roop, described this as an important milestone in our journey to build Highway Roop into a scaled, diversified precision manufacturing platform anchored in mission-critical torque and control applications. The companies did not disclose the financial details of the deal, with Mint first reporting on 14 June that Chamundi's promoters were exploring a stake sale.
The acquisition significantly expands Highway Roop's manufacturing capabilities through Chamundi's integrated operations covering tool design and manufacturing, high-pressure and gravity die-casting, precision machining, powder coating and assembly. As reported by Highway Roop, the combination brings together complementary capabilities to deliver a broader range of engineered solutions to automotive and industrial customers globally. The new facility could add 500,000 units of annual capacity in phases, with Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Sanand facilities currently under consideration. The acquisition strengthens Highway Roop's ability to deliver complex, lightweight engineered solutions across vehicle technologies, including components and assemblies for steering, transmission and powertrain systems used in electric, hybrid and internal-combustion engine vehicles. According to the latest statement, the combined business will be better placed to supply complex, lightweight engineered parts, a growing priority for OEMs developing more efficient powertrains.
Chamundi brings a growing portfolio of electric vehicle components and established customer relationships across India, North America, and Europe, further expanding Highway Roop's reach across geographies and end markets. According to the companies, Chamundi's South India manufacturing base provides Highway Roop with an additional manufacturing base and an established export-oriented operation. The South India facility also diversifies their footprint, brings them closer to key customers, and strengthens the resilience of their manufacturing network and supply chain. The acquisition strengthens Highway Roop's capabilities around their core focus on torque and control applications, expanding their ability to deliver complex, lightweight engineered solutions across vehicle technologies.
Dharmesh Arora, group chief executive and director of Highway Roop, described the acquisition as expanding the company's capabilities in aluminium die-casting and precision machining while adding a South India manufacturing base. He noted that the combination is intended to bring the company closer to customers and diversify its manufacturing network. Yasin Khan, managing director of Chamundi, confirmed that they will continue to hold a stake in the combined entity following the transaction, with Highway Roop's manufacturing capabilities and scale supporting the company's next phase of operations. Yasin Khan stated that Highway Roop's complementary capabilities and scale will enable them to build on this foundation, deepen their relationships with customers, and create new opportunities for their employees as they grow together.
Amit Jain, partner and head of Carlyle India Advisors, stated that this transaction reflects Carlyle's continued commitment to building a scaled, differentiated precision manufacturing platform in India. He noted that Highway Roop has established itself as a trusted partner to global OEMs for mission-critical torque and control components, and Chamundi adds complementary capabilities that further strengthen its customer proposition. Over four decades, Chamundi has built a strong business anchored in engineering excellence, a committed workforce and long-standing customer relationships. The acquisition represents a strategic milestone in Highway Roop's journey towards an initial public offering (IPO) and builds a scaled, diversified precision manufacturing platform.
