Cummins India Ltd. reported disappointing September quarter (Q2 FY27) results that fell short of analyst expectations across key metrics. According to reports from CNBC TV18, the company's standalone revenue from operations increased 4.1% year-on-year to ₹3,301 crore, compared with ₹3,171 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. However, this revenue figure was 6.66% below the analyst poll estimate of ₹3,536.5 crore, indicating a significant gap between actual and expected performance.
The company's profitability metrics showed substantial deterioration during the quarter. As reported by CNBC TV18, Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) declined 27.13% year-on-year to ₹507 crore from ₹695.75 crore a year ago. The EBITDA figure was also 26.52% below the analyst estimate of ₹690 crore. Profit after tax (PAT) declined 26.69% year-on-year to ₹467 crore, compared with ₹637 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, and was 25.34% below the analyst poll estimate of ₹625.5 crore.
The most significant concern was the sharp contraction in profit margins during Q2 FY27. According to CNBC TV18, EBITDA margin contracted sharply to 15.36% in Q2 FY27 from 21.94% in the year-ago quarter, marking a decline of 658 basis points. Margins also missed the analyst estimate of 19.51% by 415 basis points. The company attributed this margin pressure to commodity cost inflation, higher freight costs, and a change in product mix that weighed on profitability during the quarter.
On the operational front, Cummins India showed mixed performance across its business segments. As reported by CNBC TV18, domestic sales increased 5% year-on-year to ₹2,692 crore, while export sales rose 2% to ₹555 crore, indicating relatively modest growth across both segments. The company's performance was affected by the challenging operating environment characterized by cost pressures and margin compression that impacted overall profitability during the quarter.
Despite the disappointing quarterly results, Cummins India shares showed resilience in the market. According to CNBC TV18, the stock settled 2.55% higher at ₹4,749.30 on Wednesday, November 4, before the results announcement. The stock has gained over 6% so far in 2026, suggesting investor confidence despite the recent quarterly performance miss. The positive market response may reflect investor expectations of future recovery or the company's long-term prospects despite current operational challenges.
