Welspun Corp has secured an order worth approximately ₹5,500 crore from a major US midstream company to supply coated line pipes for a natural gas pipeline project in the Permian region of the United States, according to an exchange filing on Friday. The order was won by Welspun Tubular LLC, the company's US subsidiary, and will be executed from its US facility during the financial year 2028-29 (FY29). The pipeline will supply gas to an anchor customer, a data centre complex operated by one of the world's top-tier hyperscalers, as reported by Business Standard. Despite the significant contract win, Welspun Corp shares fell 1.75% to ₹2,391.80 on Friday, closing with a market capitalisation of ₹63,093.45 crore.
The latest contract has pushed Welspun Corp's global order book to a record $5.25 billion (around ₹50,000 crore), marking the company's highest ever order book level. This milestone reflects the growing demand for energy infrastructure to support AI-led data centre expansion, linking Welspun's pipeline business to the expanding digital infrastructure sector. According to the company, the recent order win places Welspun at the intersection of two of the biggest infrastructure themes of the decade, ie energy transmission and AI-led data centre expansion. However, the company did not disclose the customer's identity or the pipeline's capacity in the filing.
Despite the recent stock decline, Welspun Corp has delivered spectacular returns across multiple timeframes. The stock has delivered 183% returns over the last one year, 199.26% year-to-date, 98.69% returns in six months, 48.50% returns in three months, and 1647% returns over five years. The company's share price value has surged nearly 235.95% in two years and 484% in three years, demonstrating strong investor confidence in the company's growth prospects. The stock closed with a market capitalisation of ₹63,093.45 crore on Friday, reflecting the company's substantial market presence.
The latest contract demonstrates Welspun's strong position in the US pipeline infrastructure market, with the company successfully securing major orders across multiple sectors including data centres and traditional energy projects. According to Siddharth Maurya, Founder & Managing Director of Vibhavangal Anukulakara Pvt. Ltd., the order win represents a major positive for the company's long-term growth prospects. However, he noted that the financial impact would depend on execution timings, margins, and cost management involved. The FY28 and FY29 execution timeline for the largest order reflects the substantial scale of demand for pipeline infrastructure in the US market, positioning the company well for continued growth in the energy and digital infrastructure sectors.
