India's Apollo Hospitals Enterprise announced on Monday its plan to appoint promoter director Shobana Kamineni as executive chairperson of its upcoming medical equipment and digital health unit, Apollo Healthtech. According to reports from Business Standard, Kamineni currently serves as a promoter director at Apollo Hospitals and is proposed for the executive chairperson role, subject to shareholder approval. This strategic appointment follows the company's detailed corporate reorganization plan announced last year, with the proposed leadership transition signaling Apollo Hospitals' intent to place experienced promoter oversight at the helm of a business it sees as a key pillar of its next phase of growth.
The company had previously announced in the previous year that it would spin off and separately list its digital health, pharmacy, and healthcare equipment operations within 18 to 21 months as part of a comprehensive reorganization. As reported by Business Standard, during its May earnings call, the company stated it expects Apollo Healthtech's demerger and listing by late FY27 after shareholder approval, targeting annualized revenue of about ₹25,000 crore at market debut. The strategic move aims to create focused entities for each business vertical and unlock significant business value through public market access.
According to the announcement, Apollo Healthtech's board will comprise at least 50% independent directors, with nomination rights for both institutional investors and promoters subject to a proposed 10% shareholding threshold. This governance framework, anchored by an independent board, is designed to ensure proper oversight and stakeholder representation in the new entity, with clear guidelines for board composition and nomination processes. The proposed structure signals a focus on strengthening governance standards ahead of the public market debut.
The UK-based manufacturer of medical equipment serves National Health Service (NHS) and care home settings, with its portfolio including pressure-relief mattresses and cushions, specialist seating solutions, care chairs and other healthcare accessories. As reported by Business Standard, this positioning aligns with the company's strategy to focus on specialized medical equipment manufacturing, serving major healthcare institutions and care networks across the UK and other markets. Apollo Healthtech operates in the medical equipment segment and supplies products across institutional healthcare settings, positioning it as a key pillar for the company's next phase of growth.
