Hyderabad-based AIG Hospitals has officially launched its ₹2,000 crore investment over the next five years to develop a 1,000-bed greenfield multispeciality hospital at Yendada in Visakhapatnam. Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister Mr Nara Lokesh and AIG Hospitals Chairman Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy laid the foundation stone for the project on Monday. As per the government release, the hospital will be spread across a nine-acre campus and will offer 50-plus medical and surgical specialities through 8 Centers of Excellence. According to Dr. Reddy, the research laboratory and academic block are part of the project's structure from the beginning, stating that "clinical excellence can only thrive when it is complimented by continuous academic activities and backed by research."
The project is expected to create employment for around 9,000 people at full operations, with the hospital's capacity being built over five years. The hospital will be developed in two phases - the first phase comprising 650 beds expected to be operational by October 2028, followed by a second phase adding 350 beds to reach the total capacity of 1,000 beds. The second phase will be completed over the following two to three years. The facility is also expected to have 1,000 doctors on its rolls and will feature a nursing college on 2.5 acres as part of the comprehensive healthcare ecosystem. Speaking on the occasion, Sri PVS Raju, Vice-Chairman, AIG Hospitals, emphasized that "a project of this scale creates employment at every level be it clinical, technical, administrative and support functions," while noting that the nursing college and paramedic training centre will produce trained professionals for sustainable healthcare practice in the entire region.
According to the latest reports, the hospital will be spread across a nine-acre campus and will offer 50-plus medical and surgical specialities through 8 Centers of Excellence to reflect the full range of medical services provided at AIG Hospitals in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. The facility will include advanced equipment such as modular operating rooms, cath labs, endoscopy suites, 150 critical care beds and a 50-bed emergency department. The outpatient block is designed to handle around 5,000 consultations a day. Additionally, the hospital will feature a 120-bed mother-and-child block, including a 15-bed neonatal intensive care unit, birthing suites and paediatric services. The campus will also provide hostel accommodation for nursing staff, accommodation for visiting faculty, and low-cost accommodation for patients' families. Dr. Rakesh Kalapala noted that the hospital will be technology-enabled from day one with AI integrated into clinical workflows, imaging, diagnostics and hospital operations.
The project will include a nursing college, paramedic training centre, research laboratory, AI centre and 500-seater academic auditorium, creating an integrated healthcare, education and research ecosystem. As per AIG Hospitals leadership, the research laboratory and academic block are part of the project's structure from the beginning, with Chairman Dr. D. Dr. Reddy further added that "A project of this size needs a state that truly understands the futuristic measures for its people and under Swarnandhra Vision 2047, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has put in the confidence in us to not just build a world-class hospital but the one which serves the people by being equitable, accessible and affordable."
