All public and private sector banks in India are operating as usual today, on Saturday, 20 June 2026, as it is a working day according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday schedule. According to reports from Mint, while some customers could be confused since today is a Saturday, rules mandate that the second and fourth Saturdays and every Sunday in each month are weekend holidays for all banks. The central bank releases its annual, official bank holiday list in January, with banks in India following a set holiday schedule.
As reported by Mint, the RBI's holiday calendar shows several closures in June 2026. June 21 marks the Sunday weekend off, while June 25 sees banks closed in Vijayawada to observe Moharrum. June 26 will witness bank operations shut in multiple cities including Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Srinagar to observe Muharrum. June 27 marks the fourth Saturday weekend off, followed by June 28 as the Sunday weekend off. June 29 will see banks closed in Shimla to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti, and June 30 will have banks shut in Aizawl to celebrate the regional public holiday known as Remna Ni.
According to Mint, during bank holidays, online banking services remain available across the country to ensure uninterrupted access to banking services. Customers can use these services for convenient financial transactions, including UPI payments and money transfers through the respective bank's app. Fund transfer requests can be made using NEFT/RTGS transfer forms, demand draft request forms and cheque book forms. Credit cards, debit cards, and ATM cards can also be obtained through card services, along with account maintenance forms and standing instruction applications.
As reported by Mint, working days for banks are typically from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Under the RBI's official guidelines, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks observe mandatory closure on all second and fourth Saturdays, as well as every Sunday of the month. In June 2026, there are four Sundays in the month, so banks will remain closed on June 7, 14, 21 and 28. In addition to Sundays, banks will be closed on June 13 (second Saturday) and June 27 (fourth Saturday).
