Banks across India will remain closed for four days during the week of May 26-31, 2026, according to the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar for fiscal 2026-27. The closure schedule varies by region and is based on national, regional, and religious observations. Customers planning to visit branches of major banks including State Bank of India (SBI), Punjab National Bank (PNB), HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank are advised to review the RBI holiday calendar before scheduling bank-related work.
The closure schedule includes three separate holidays across different regions. On Tuesday, May 26, banks will be closed in Tripura on the account of Kazi Nazrul Islam's birth anniversary. On Wednesday, May 27, banks in 14 states including Tripura, Telangana, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Assam, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh will remain closed due to Eid al-Adha celebrations. On Thursday, May 28, banks in seven states including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, and Bihar will be closed for Bakri Id.
Despite physical branch closures during public holidays, customers can continue accessing online banking services, ATM facilities, UPI, and other digital banking services during the closure periods. This ensures that essential banking needs remain accessible to customers even when physical branches are unavailable.
Banks will resume normal operations on Saturday, May 30, as it is not a holiday, according to the RBI calendar. However, banks will remain closed on Sunday, May 31, maintaining the standard weekend closure pattern. The RBI holiday calendar for fiscal 2026-27 reflects the diverse regional observances across India, with banks also remaining closed on the second and fourth Saturdays along with Sundays of every month.
