Reliance Industries' Jio Platforms has expanded JioPC beyond its previous availability to only JioHome broadband subscribers. According to reports from Business Standard, the service is now available to consumers with any internet connection, regardless of their telecom or broadband provider. The cloud-based virtual desktop service allows users to access computing resources remotely through their existing computers, with configurations available up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. As per JioPC announcements, the service is now accessible as a standalone subscription to anyone with an internet connection, opening cloud-powered computing to consumers across India. The service operates through cloud computing technology, allowing even eight-year-old computers to access modern AI-powered applications, provided the internet connection is stable enough.
As reported by Business Standard, JioPC is available in two configurations with varying storage and RAM options. The standard plan offers 8GB RAM and 500GB storage for ₹1,000 for two months, while the Ultra plan provides 16GB RAM and 1TB storage for ₹1,200 for the same duration. Longer subscription periods include five-month plans at ₹2,000 and ₹2,500 respectively, and ten-month plans at ₹4,000 and ₹5,000 respectively. All prices include GST as per JioPC announcements. The service is now available at flexible subscription options with plans available at https://www.jio.com/jiopc/pwa/.
According to Business Standard, JioPC can be activated and subscribed to in less than five minutes without requiring data migration, hardware installation, or system downtime. The service operates through cloud computing technology, where the heavy computing work happens on Jio's cloud infrastructure while users connect to that remote computing environment through their existing computer and internet connection. This means an older PC does not physically gain more RAM or storage, instead users get access to cloud resources that can provide higher computing capacity. The system requires only a stable internet connection, including broadband, 4G, or 5G connectivity, to function effectively. Performance will depend on connection speed, latency, and stability, with poor connections affecting responsiveness, especially for heavier applications.
As reported by Business Standard, JioPC is positioned as an alternative for consumers who may otherwise need to replace aging computers or invest in hardware upgrades. The service addresses the needs of homes, schools, professionals, and small businesses whose older computers struggle with modern, AI-enabled software. The platform provides access to essential desktop functions including web browsing, document editing, and virtual learning capabilities without requiring physical hardware upgrades. According to JioPC announcements, the service is particularly suited for 3-4-year-old computers that have slowed down, run out of storage, or have outdated operating systems, offering users an alternative to purchasing new hardware or investing in costly upgrades. The service is now positioned in a more general cloud PC category, where the computing experience is delivered as a subscription rather than through new local hardware.
