Serial entrepreneur Ankur Warikoo has revealed that he rejected a ₹100+ crore acquisition offer for his edtech platform WebVeda within just four minutes. According to reports from NDTV Profit, Warikoo posted on his social media handle that he turned down the offer despite it appearing as 'free money' and an easy exit. The rejection was motivated by the potential buyer's plan to double course prices to ₹3,999 in the first year.
Warikoo emphasized that his decision was driven by WebVeda's core mission to make education accessible for students from smaller cities and those with lower incomes. As reported by NDTV Profit, he stated that the company exists so that a student in Kanpur earning ₹18,000 per month can afford to learn. The entrepreneur noted that '100 crores is a lot, a broken promise costs more' in his social media post.
According to NDTV Profit, Warikoo announced the closure of his ₹100 crore business model in May, marking a significant shift in his approach. The company, which operates as a growth platform enabling professionals to access and apply life skills education, underwent a structural transformation before the acquisition rejection. Warikoo has since decided to make the business subscription-focused, prioritizing helping more people over making more money.
As reported by NDTV Profit, WebVeda now offers students access to all courses for the cost of one, representing a significant change from its previous individual course business model. The platform continues to focus on providing affordable education solutions for professionals seeking to develop life skills, though it has transitioned from its original individual course structure.
